The Danube: River of Life
Religious, scientific, environmental and political leaders travel the Danube from Passau, Germany, to its delta on the Black Sea and explore the common ground between pragmatic environmental issues and the spiritual dimensions of nature. In the aftermath of the conflict in the former Republic of Yugoslavia, the challenge of protecting and improving the condition of the Danube has become even more urgent. This film focuses attention on the impacts of war, urban development, industrialization, shipping and agriculture and what can be done to restore the Danube River. The symposium on which the film is based generated strong media attention and inspired significant new initiatives in the region. "We stood before the bridges of Novi Sad and implored God--in the presence of religious leaders of the city--to restore the environment of that region in the face of the destruction of war. Before us was the costly price for our inhumane behavior." - His All Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew

Why Countries Are Landlocked + Canals
Why are some countries landlocked? In the case of Bolivia its because they lost a war with Chile. Ethiopia and Serbia granted independence to the parts of their countries that had a coast. Some countries like uzbekistan, are so far inland that they are doubly landlocked, which means they are both landlocked and completely surrounded by other landlocked countries. When a country is landlocked it can be difficult for them to trade, and they often have to rely on their neighbours. In Europe, the danube river lets many landlocked countries have some access to the black sea. As well, many canals exist which lets small ships travel deep inland, providing some of the benefits of having a coast. Some countries may look landlocked, but when viewed closely you can see they have tiny coasts. You can watch this video I made which explores the weird borders in those situations: https://youtu.be/elybAzSVSHc

Sea of Azov
The Sea of Azov is a sea in south-eastern Europe. To the south it is linked by the narrow (about 4 km or 2.5 mi) Strait of Kerch to the Black Sea, and it is sometimes regarded as a northern extension of the Black Sea. The sea is bounded in the north by mainland Ukraine, in the east by Russia, and in the west by the Crimean Peninsula. The Don and Kuban are the major rivers that flow into it. The Sea of Azov is the shallowest sea in the world, with the depth varying between 0.9 and 14 meters (2 ft 11 in and 45 ft 11 in). There is a constant outflow of water from the Sea of Azov to the Black Sea. The sea is largely affected by the inflow of numerous rivers, which bring sand, silt, and shells, which in turn form numerous bays, limans, and narrow spits. Because of these deposits, the sea bottom is relatively smooth and flat with the depth gradually increasing toward the middle. Also, due to the river inflow, water in the sea has low salinity and a high amount of biomass (such as green algae) that affects the water colour. Abundant plankton results in unusually high fish productivity. The sea shores and spits are low; they are rich in vegetation and bird colonies. The name likely derives from the settlement of and area around Azov, whose name comes from the Kipchak Turkish asak or azaq ("lowlands"). A Russian folk etymology, however, instead derives it from an eponymous Cuman prince named "Azum" or "Asuf", said to have been killed defending his town in 1067. A formerly common spelling of the name in English was the Sea of Azoff, which is closer to the Russian pronunciation. In antiquity, the sea was usually known as the Maeotis Swamp from the marshlands to its northeast.[ It remains unclear whether it was named for the nearby Maeotians or if that name was applied broadly to various peoples who happened to live beside it. Other names included Lake Maeotis or Maeotius (Mæotius or Mæotis Lacus); the Maeotium or Maeotic Sea (Mæotium or Mæoticum Æquor); the Cimmerian or Scythican Swamps (Cimmeriae or Scythicæ Paludes); and the Cimmerian or Bosporic Sea (Cimmericum or Bosporicum Mare). The Maeotians themselves were said by Pliny to call the sea Temarenda or Temerinda, meaning "Mother of Waters". The medieval Russians knew it as the Sea of Surozh after the adjacent city now known as Sudak. It was known in Ottoman Turkish as the Balük-Denis ("Fish Sea") from its high productivity.

In Search Of Eden
Archaeologist David Rohl claims to have found the site described in Genesis as "Eden" in a lush valley beneath an extinct volcano in northern Iran. The Jerusalem Report (February 1, 1999) broke the story in the article -- "Paradise Found." Ten miles from the sprawling Iranian industrial city of Tabriz, to the northwest of Teheran, says British archaeologist David Rohl, he has found the site of the Biblical garden . . . "As you descend a narrow mountain path, you see a beautiful alpine valley, just like the Bible describes it, with terraced orchards on its slopes, crowded with every kind of fruit-laden tree," says Rohl, a scholar of University College, London, The Biblical word gan (as in Gan Eden) means `walled garden,' " Rohl continues, "and the valley is indeed walled in by towering mountains." The highest of these is Mt. Sahand, a snow-capped extinct volcano that Rohl identifies as the Prophet Ezekiel's Mountain of God, where the Lord resides among `red-hot coals' (Ezekiel 28:11-19). Cascading down the once-fiery mountain, precisely echoing Ezekiel, is a small river, the Adji Chay (the name of which also translates in local dialect as 'walled garden'). The locals still hold the mountain sacred, Rohl says, and attribute magical powers to the river's water. In order to make the journey to this most remote location, one must travel from western Iran, north through the Zagros Mountains of Iranian Kurdistan, down Mt. Sahand, and into the fertile Adji Chay valley. The Jerusalem Report article gives a number of geographical locations. What made Rohl look in this location in the first place? One factor was that he read about it in ancient Sumerian cuneiform clay tablets held by the Museum of the Orient in Istanbul. The other factor was the work of the late, little-known British scholar Reginald Walker. The ancient tablets described a 5,000 year-old route to Eden. He has been researching the location since the late 1980's through academic documents. In April 1997 Rohl did something very remarkable to prove his point. He set out from the Iranian town of Ahwaz, near the northern tip of the Persian Gulf, with only his jeep driver for company. According to the article: They traveled north toward Kurdistan through what Rohl calls `lawless' terrain, trusting to luck to avoid the various guerilla factions active in the region. Rohl followed a route, documented in the Sumerian cuneiform epic `Enmerkar and the Lord of Aratta,' supposedly taken 5,000 years earlier by an emissary of the Sumerian priest-king of Uruk. The emissary had been dispatched to Aratta, on the plain of `Edin' -- known to Sumerians as a land of happiness and plenty -- to obtain gold and lapis lazuli to decorate a temple that Enmerkar was building in Uruk. The cuneiform epic describes the dutiful emissary's three-month trek on foot via seven passes through the Zagros Mountains, to the foothills of Mt. Sahand -- the southern edge of Rohl's Eden -- and his successful procurement of the required valuable. The Garden described in the Bible places the headwaters of four rivers in it: the Tigris, the Euphrates, the Gihon, and the Pishon. Obviously, the Tigris and Euphrates are well-known rivers, but the other two have been real problems in the past. Rohl has identified them as the Araxes and Uizhun which puts the headwaters of all four rivers in his Eden. Interestingly, the Uizhun, Rohl's equivalent to the Pishon which the Bibles identifies with gold, is known locally as the Golden River, and meanders between ancient gold mines and lodes of lapis lazuli. Making his case even stronger, Rohl says that he has found the "Land of Nod" which the Bible describes as "East of Eden." Nod was Cain's place of exile after the murder of his brother Abel. Today the area is called "Noqdi." But it doesn't end there because a few kilometers south of Rohl's Nod, at the head of a mountain pass, lies the sleepy town of Helabad. Formerly it was known as "Kheruabad," which means "settlement of the Kheru people." He believes that this could be a permutation of the Hebrew word keruvim that is translated as "Cherubs." These people were a tribe of fearsome warriors whose token was an eagle or falcon. Modern scholars have argued that the Genesis stories were just myths and should be looked upon in an allegorical sense. Rohl's discovery is now essentially seeking to push back the start of history all the way to the beginning of the Book of Genesis. Since the Bible scrupulously documents the specifics of the garden's location and its surroundings, says Rohl, why shouldn't we take those descriptions at face value? "I consider the Bible a historical document just like the writings of Herodotus or a text of Rameses II," says Rohl. "It's ridiculous to throw it in the dustbin just because it's a religious text. If so strong a tradition evolves out of the past, it is likely to have a genuine geographical setting."

55 lakes in Eastern Antarctica that shouldn’t exist
Eastern Antarctica is considered to be the coldest place on Earth. So cold, that scientists expected its ice shelves were frozen solid and more stable against climbing global temperatures than Western Antarctica or Greenland. But new research published in the widely-esteemed journal Nature Climate Change has proven otherwise. If you want to learn more, lead scientists Jan Lenaerts and Stef Lhermitte break down the science in this educational blog post. Sea of Galilee in Israel
Sea of Galilee in Israel The Sea of Galilee is also known in the Bible as the Sea of Gennesaret, Sea of Tiberias, and Sea of Kinnereth. The Sea of Galilee isn’t really a “sea” per se – it is actually a freshwater lake fed by nearby mountains and springs, which combine at the head of the Jordan River to the north. The Jordan River then passes through the lake, which is about 13 miles long and 8 miles wide. The Sea of Galilee is 686 feet below sea level, making it the lowest freshwater lake in the world. The landscape around the Sea of Galilee is unique. To the east and west, the ground rises steeply from the shore to fertile plateaus above. The black basalt boulders that cover the hillsides are typical of a landscape that was once volcanic. From the southern shore, you can see the twin peaks of Mount Canaan to the north, with the snow-covered Mount Hermon way beyond in the distance. From the west, you can see the small white houses of Ein Gev over on the eastern shore. Beyond Ein Gev rises a hill that was the site of the Hellenistic town, Hippos. From the east, you can see Magdala Bay on the northwestern shore, which lies just below biblical Tabgha and Capernaum. The land surrounding the Sea of Galilee today appears rather quiet and barren. However, history tells us that this wasn’t the case during the time of Jesus. This was a hub for agriculture and trade. NARMADA PARIKRAMA The Narmada also called the Rewa, is a river in central India and the fifth longest river in the Indian subcontinent. It is the third longest river that flows entirely within India, after the Godavari and the Krishna. It is also known as "Life Line of Madhya Pradesh" for its huge contribution to the state of Madhya Pradesh in many ways. It forms the traditional boundary between North India and South India and flows westwards over a length of 1,312 km (815.2 mi) before draining through theGulf of Khambhat into the Arabian Sea, 30 km (18.6 mi) west of Bharuch city of Gujarat. It is one of only three major rivers in peninsular India that run from east to west (longest west flowing river), along with the Tapti River and the Mahi River. It is the one of the rivers in India that flows in a rift valley, flowing west between the Satpura and Vindhya ranges. The other rivers which flows through rift valley include Damodar River in Chota Nagpur Plateau and Tapti. The Tapti River and Mahi River also flow through rift valleys, but between different ranges. It flows through the states of Madhya Pradesh(1,077 km (669.2 mi)), and Maharashtra, (74 km (46.0 mi))– (35 km (21.7 mi)) then along the border between Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra (39 km (24.2 mi) and the border between Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat and in Gujarat (161 km (100.0 mi)). The Periplus Maris Erythraei (c. 80 AD) calls it the Nammadus, and theBritish Raj called it the Nerbudda or Narbada. Narmadā is a Sanskrit word meaning "the Giver of Pleasure". To Hindus the Narmada is one of the five holy rivers of India; the other four beingGanges, Yamuna, Godavari and Kaveri. It is believed that a dip in any of these five rivers washes one's sins away. According to a legend, the river Ganges, polluted by millions of people bathing in it, assumes the form of a black cow and comes to the Narmada to bathe and cleanse itself in its holy waters. Legends also claim that the Narmada River is older than the river Ganges. The river was mentioned by Ptolemy in the second century AD as Namade and by the author of the Periplus. The Ramayana, the Mahabharat, and thePuranas refer to it frequently. The Rewa Khand of Vayu Purana and the Rewa Khand of Skanda Purana are entirely devoted to the story of the birth and the importance of the river, and hence Narmada is also called the Rewa. There are many fables about the origin of the Narmada. According to one of them, once Lord Shiva, the Destroyer of the Universe, meditated so hard that he started perspiring. Shiva's sweat accumulated in a tank and started flowing in the form of a river – the Narmada. Another legend has it that two teardrops that fell from the eyes of Lord Brahma, the creator of the universe, yielded two rivers – the Narmada and the Son. Legends also say that for Lord Shiva, the Hindu God, the river is especially sacred on account of its origin, and it is often called Shankari, i.e., daughter of Shankar (Lord Shiva). All the pebbles rolling on its bed are said to take the shape of his emblem with the saying, "Narmada Ke Kanker utte Sankar" (a popular saying in the Hindi belt of India), which means that 'pebble stones of Narmada By Kailash Mansarovar Foundation Swami Bikash Giri www.sumeruparvat.com , www.naturalitem.com

The World's Strangest Borders Part 1: Panhandles
Borders sometimes look pretty strange on a map. Usually, borders exist where there is a river, a mountain range or some other geographical feature. But other times, borders are complete creations of politics or old history and often times look pretty strange. This video is about five of the strangest looking panhandles found in global borders; a panhandle being a part of a country that juts out away from the rest of the country. Linguistic PROOF Mt. Zion is in AFRICA beginning at the Nile river!!!!
Personally, I feel this video was inspired by the great spirit of humanity because i didn't intend to find what i did. I started out intending to simply do a video showing 7 old maps with the Sion River, until i realized the 3 maps were different and then it all clicked in my mind... I remembered the conversations i had with the Kikuyu Seer, Mr. Samuel Kamitha, messenger for the Chief Seer to Mt. Kenya's College of Seers... And from their wisdom which normally stays secluded in the holy hills, I bring you this inspiration. Hopefully this helps somebody and maybe someone can take this a step further in the future as new information is made available. The Seers say we're in the times where many things that were hidden will now be presented to humanity. They for one are an ancient priesthood that have ancient scrolls that they plan to present to the world to encourage peace and mental elevation...

Heart Attack - Wild Rivers (Live Session)
Here's a live performance of our song, Heart Attack, off our debut album, Wild Rivers, out April 16th! Thanks to Nathaniel Deshpande of Latent Image design for capturing the performance, at DSTRCT Lounge in Guelph. Lyrics: I stepped back just to frame it And I didn't know too much Narrowed my eyes, tried to cut through lies I was losing touch Darling I didn't know nothing Hit like a head full of wine Came like a curse, I was down in the first You didn't use your right Oh my you just gotta take a piece of me Trying to tease out the other side Cause darling I just see you've been so sweet to me I been waiting on the day all night Would it kill you for some piece of mind Would you take me and not look back Good gracious you're a heart attack We were something like a movie But she was more of a show Spread roots wide in the back of my eyes And she never let it slow I had my hand full of aces Ran her fingers down the back of my neck I stepped back when she laid down that jack I was losing breath Oh my you just gotta take a piece of me Trying to tease out the other side Cause darling I just see you've been so sweet to me I been waiting on the day all night Would it kill you for some piece of mind Would you take me and not look back Good gracious you're a heart attack. CGA Colloquium May 2016 - An Empire of Tsars and Rivers
Speaker: Kelly O'Neill (Harvard University) What Historical GIS Tells Us About the Economic Space of a Continental Empire Abstract: When the Tsarist Empire collapsed in 1917 it was one of the largest states the world had ever seen. It was famously landlocked and saddled with an agricultural economy dominated by the needs of an elite concentrated in Moscow and St. Petersburg. The exhaustive data collected by the imperial bureaucracy suggests that in practice however, the economic geography of the empire was far more complex, and that the production, movement, and consumption of goods followed a spatial logic easily missed without the aid of historical GIS. This talk will sketch the overarching goals of the Imperiia Project – a GIS of the Russian Empire – before digging into the process of mapping historical economic data and presenting some of the implications for rethinking the significance of space (and mapping) in imperial history. Bio: Kelly O'Neill is a historian of Russia. Her research and teaching interests concentrate on the evolution of the tsarist empire, and particularly on the social, cultural, and spatial implications of imperial rule. Her first book, Southern Empire: the Logic and Limits of Russian Rule in Crimea, reconstructs the incorporation of the peoples, places, and institutions of the Crimean Khanate into the Russian system. The book challenges the binary terms in which imperial rule has traditionally been understood - i.e., the language of center and periphery - and reveals a more complex, more flexible spatial framework. Her work on Crimea has engendered an abiding interest in the Black Sea world, leading her to projects on the slave trade, the development of the Russian wine industry, and the management of natural resources - above all, forests – in the 18th and 19th centuries. O'Neill directs the Imperiia Project - a historical GIS of the Russian Empire that examines Russia's cultural and commercial infrastructure.

Documentary of allahabad triveni sangam full videos
Documentary of allahabad triveni sangam full videos The Triveni Sangam in Allahabad is a confluence of three rivers, the Ganges, Yamuna, and Saraswati. Of these three, the river Saraswati is invisible and is alleged to flow underground and join the other two rivers from below. Here the muddy and pale-yellow waters of the Ganges merge with the blue waters of Yamuna. Insurance policy coverage Ganges is only 4 feet deep, the Yamuna is 40 feet deep near the point their own nexus. The river Yamuna merges into the Ganges at this point and also the Ganges continues on until it meets the sea at the Bay of Bengal. At the confluence of these two great Indian rivers, where the invisible Saraswati conjoins them, many tirtha yatris take boats to bathe from platforms erected in the Sangam. This, together however migratory birds give a picturesque look to the river during the Kumbha Mela, in the month of January. It is considered that all the gods come in human form to take a dip at the sangam and expiate their sins. All over India, the meeting rivers amplify the holiness of the tirtha. Two rivers are much better than one three even more auspicious. The great site of the meeting rivers in north India is the sangam, the confluence, of the Ganga and Yamuna at Prayaga, where the city now called Allahabad is an acronym. The Ganga has long been seen as the white river, bearing the mica laden waters of her Himalayan course, and the Yamuna, the blue riv. This description of the confluence of the Ganga and Yamuna seems being referred to in one of the latest sections of the Rig Veda, which says,Those who bathe at the place where the two rivers, white and dark, flow together, rise upto island. More than a thousand years later, the classical Sanskrit poet, Kalidasa, describes the confluence of the whitewaters of the Ganga with the blue waters of the Yamuna as they were a string of pearls and sapphires combined, or a garland of white and blue lotuses intertwined. According to the Puranas, there is also yet another river, the Sarasvati

Top 10 Amazing Places On Earth You Won't Believe
Top 10 Amazing Places On Earth You Won't Believe __________________________________________________________ Geographically, Europe is in a broader mainland Eurasian continent. The boundaries of the European continent with Asia started from the Ural Mountains in Russia to the east, to the south east is not uniform, can be seen as the Ural River or Emba rivers. From that boundary continues with the Caspian Sea, then to the Kuma and Manych rivers or the Caucasus range, and then drag to the Black Sea; the Bosporus, the Sea of Marmara, and the Dardanelles straits terminate boundary with Asia. Mediterranean Sea to the south separates Europe from Africa. The western boundary is the Atlantic Ocean, but Iceland, much farther away than the nearest point of Europe with Africa and Asia, also in Europe. Currently the determination of the European geographic center is still within the debate. In fact, the borders of Europe are generally determined based on political factors, economic, and cultural. Consequently, the size and number of European countries will vary depending on the definition. Most countries in Europe are members of the Council of Europe, except Belarus, and the Holy See (Vatican City). The concept of continental Europe are not uniform. Because Europe is not surrounded by the entire sea, many people consider it just a peninsula of the Eurasian continent. In the past, the Christian concept of territory is considered more important for Europe. In fact, Europe is increasingly being used as shorthand to refer to the European Union (LMCA) and 25 of its current members. Some European countries are applying for membership, others are also expected to conduct negotiations in the future Video posted by Kênh Động Vật (animal)
