Today, I’m going to cover a few promotions for March that will increase your sales and attract new customers! The first promotional idea is on the first Friday in March., National Employee Appreciation Day I’ve actually got two ideas here for you. One idea is to have a staff appreciation party and bring in a few guest bartenders and servers. You probably couldn’t do this on a Friday with it being too busy, but that doesn’t mean you can’t run this on a Sunday or Monday when it’s slower. I’ve ran this same type of promotion for the last 7 years and have done pretty well it it. What’s nice about this is the staff can invite the loyal customers up and again, you’d do this on your slowest night of the week. Get them to invite their friends as well. You can easily get an extra 20-30 people in the door on your slowest night of the week by having your staff work their “invite” magic. The other thing you can do is tie this in with other “Employees” or everyone in your area. Get on social media and let people know about this promotion and that they are welcome too since they are employees elsewhere and it’s National Employee Appreciation Day. You could contact employers in the area to let them know about your promotion and see if they want to have an employee party. Give them some appetizer packages to sweeten the deal and get a bigger response.. The next promotional idea I have for you is on the 26th, Make up your own holiday day. It doesn’t get any easier than this. Any bar or restaurant can create a yearly promotion out of this. The way this works is You, the owner or manager, comes up with YOUR own holiday. The two easiest ideas you can use would be “National Go To YOUR Bar Day or National Go To YOUR Restaurant Day.” A really easy way to create some publicity for this and gain extra exposure would be to write up a press release and get that out to the media outlets. They’re always looking for newsworthy information when it’s tied to certain holidays. The next promotion I have for you is National Mom and Pop Business owner Day. Get a mailing list of local business owners and send them a letter or postcard about this special day and that you thought it was only right to give them a great offer on this day. You’re a small business owner, too. Show them your appreciation! They’ll love you for this! You could get on LinkedIn, you could run Facebook ads directly to small business owners, you could talk to your entire staff and see if they have personal relationships with small business owners. This could also turn into a huge networking event where some great joint venture partnerships could be created! One of the best ways to get trusted visibility/endorsements for your message and service/product is through Promotional Partnerships. In this video I talk about *how* to reach out for such partnerships: What should you be asking potential partners to promote? How to reach out to them? Here are some notes, but for nuances before to watch the video. If they don’t already know and trust you, it makes more sense to offer something for free to their audience, that is genuinely of interest, and something the partner herself doesn’t offer to her audience. For example: -- A complimentary call for a set number of audience members -- A guided meditation -- A downloadable PDF that offers advice, tools, or step-by-step strategies to solve something that will likely interest their audience Get smart about what you offer for your promotional (or “JV”... joint venture) partners to promote. Make it something their audience would climb over mountains for. This may mean conversing with the partner to come up with an ideal message. But make it easy for them — first give them some options! (And keep updating those options over time as you observe what audiences love to get from you.) Expect that you may *not* hear from most of the people you reach out to... until you get better at the letter you write, and more clear about whom it’s best for you to reach out to. What's important is that with every outreach, you are practicing. You are learning how to do better outreach. If you keep sending out emails and observing what's working (and what's not) and modifying accordingly, you will get better & better at this. You will grow in your ability to reach the right people, with the right message. Through this kind of deliberate practice, you will inevitably succeed at filling all your client spots. Practically speaking, there is an unlimited number of potential JV partners for you online. Get searching. Use Google, LinkedIn, ask your colleagues for suggestions, and simply pay attention as you go about your regular internet surfing, who might have an audience that clearly needs your stuff. And research them to confirm this fact. 2 categories of partners: Warm contacts -- those you could reach out to now, to help you brainstorm what free or low-cost offering of yours, could most benefit their audience. Cold contacts -- after getting some confidence on the right offering, reach out to people who don’t know you. Most people are very shy about reaching out to others. If you are willing to experiment and practice this technique, you will be able to create positive, mutually-beneficial relationships much more quickly than the average person, who gives into inertia and fear of rejection. Remember that your ideal partners are mutually-supportive business friends. Not every person you reach is ideal, but you won’t really know until you reach out. TINDER’S FIRST YEAR USER GROWTH STRATEGY The dating application Tinder achieved over 1 million monthly active users in less than a year from product launch. Within 30 months, it reached 24 million monthly active users. This article explores the strategies, tactics, and marketing materials used during Tinder’s first year. Sean Rad (the founder) and the rest of executive team shared some of their insights into why they believe Tinder was able to grow so quickly and explode into the smartphones of millions of users. Here is what I picked up from the Tinder team: GROWTH STRATEGY Tinder's first year growth strategy was "college by college" growth technique used by Facebook. "You need to identify social influencers in small areas, see who the influencers are, and target them" – Whitney Wolfe. Tinder also conducted launch parties with the requirement to display the installed app on a mobile to gain admission to the party. Tinder's strategy to sign up sorority girls on campus helped to seed the marketplace. Tinder shifted its marketing tactics in late 2013 to begin expansion into the 25-34 demographic through a series of "city by city" launch parties. The initial Tinder outreach focused on the most popular organizations within the college Greek-letter system. Rolling Stone calls this a “Targeted VIP” group “including presidents of sororities, celebutantes, models, and other ‘high-quality people.'” ASPIRATIONAL MARKETING Tinder marketing materials leveraged the existing sorority image styles. Tinder press kit image is compared to USC Kappa Kappa Gamma Tumblr photo site. There is a remarkable similarity in subject, composition, and tone between them. BUILDING CONCENTRATION With the influencers “bought in,” the marketing team could begin to address the larger Greek-letter community on campus. This formula uses social proof to progressively build out the community at each campus PERSONAL OUTREACH PRESENTATIONS LAUNCH PARTIES USER EXPERIENCE Third-party integration GROWTH RESULTS The success that early users found with the tool created authentic success stories that spread within the 18-23 community. Tinder had over a half million monthly active users within the first six months of launch. SHIFTING TACTICS “CITY BY CITY” LAUNCH PARTIES DEMOGRAPHIC IMPACT “In early months, over 85% of our user base was between the ages of 18-24, but now that age demo only makes up about 57% of our user base. We are seeing a huge upswing in both 25-34 year old demographic and 35-44 year old demographic.” – Justin Mateen, October 2013 BUILDING THE FIRE Tinder’s marketing team employed tactics appropriate for each developmental stage. Early successes were crucial for creating traction needed to develop an enthusiastic and engaged initial user base. Starting from zero, early campaigns saw hundreds or thousands new users. Tinder would not be growing en mass today now if they had not hustled to bring in users personally in the first year.
