British Columbia, 1967 In 1967, British Columbia became a hub of mermaid excitement when, one day, Ferry riders spotted a mermaid lounging on the shore of Mayne Island. They claimed they saw a topless, blonde woman with the tail of a porpoise sitting on the beach shore. Some witnesses even became very upset, as they believed they saw the mermaid eating a raw salmon. One tourist from Iowa even managed to take a picture. After the sighting, the mermaid was seen one more time the following week. As the locals got swept up by the spotting of this mysterious mermaid, the town locals began to seek any information relating to her. The town newspaper, The Colonist, put up a $25,000 reward for the mermaid. Arrangements were even made for the mermaid to have room and board once she was found and successfully acclimated into the town setting. Although many believe that the whole thing was a charade, many still believe that what they saw was real. 9. Scotland, 1830 Mermaids are a part of Scotland’s countless mysteries and legends. It’s not surprising, then, that there would be many accounts of mermaid sightings. In 1830, the people of the island of Benbecula saw a mermaid. While cutting seaweed near the shore one day, a woman reportedly saw a miniature woman swimming in the water. Surprised by her discovery, she called many people over to view the water dweller. Some men rushed at her in the water, either to catch her or get a closer look, and the woman swam out of reach. Some boys threw stones at the frightened mermaid and one struck her in the back. A few days later, the corpse of the mermaid supposedly washed up on the shore. Like many of the other claims of mermaids, this one was small, with pale white skin and had the tail of a fish without scales. After the discovery, the sheriff of the town thought it only fitting that the mermaid have a proper burial. Someone constructed a coffin and the mermaid, wrapped in a shroud, was laid to rest above the shoreline where she was found. To this day, no one knows exactly where the mermaid was buried as no marker was left to denote the spot. 8. West Indies, 1614 John Smith, the same John Smith from Pocahontas, reported that he saw a mermaid off the coast of West Indies in 1614. According to the story, Smith saw a woman swimming parallel to the shore. He was captivated by the grace in which she moved and noted that she had ears that were too long, a nose that was too short, eyes that were too round, and green hair. He also noted that the woman was a little attractive from the waist up. From the waist down, however, she was all fish. Some doubt has been thrown on the veracity of the tale of course, otherwise where would the mystery be. One source claims he wasn’t in the West Indies but in Newfoundland. Another historian says Smith wasn’t in the West Indies in 1614, though he was there in 1607. Potato patato in this case. The same historian suggested that Alexandre Dumas fabricated the tale to give credence to his own mermaid story about a Frenchman searching for a Dutchman who had four children with a mermaid. 7. Norway, 1608 In 1608, Henry Hudson explored the cold northern waters off Norway. Written in his journal, he describes a day when he encountered a group of mermaids. Hudson claimed a mermaid appeared in the water, saw his crew and called up more of her mermaid sisters. He described the women as being as big as the men in his crew, with very white skin and long dark hair. He claimed their tails looked like a dolphin’s but were spotted like a mackerel. Hudson was thrilled that he had discovered mermaids. What makes this case so strange is that it occurred in the Bering Sea. Most mermaid sightings are discounted as sailors mistaking animals, often manatees, as mermaids. However, no manatees swim the waters of the Bering Sea. Naturalist Philip Henry Gosse, in his mid-1800s work The Romance of Natural History, believes it to be impossible that Hudson mistook an animal for this mermaid. He believes seasoned sailors such as Hudson would be able to identify animals in that location easily. Gosse believes either Hudson made this entire story up or Hudson saw something truly unique to the realm of science. We may never know. Top 5 ugliest fish! Many ugly animals live in the water of the deep sea & are real beauties. These scary ocean creatures, like the blobfish, are rare. Subscribe for the latest videos: https://goo.gl/7xzjzR 5: The Lumpsucker/Henfish Found lurking at the bottom of the cool waters of the Arctic, North Atlantic, and North Pacific ocean is the Lumpsucker. Although lumpsuckers are cute as babies, they tend to grow up to look something like this... Sometimes referred to as the Henfish, the Lumpsucker is typically 1-2 feet long with a asymmetrical, blob-like body with protruded eyes. And while most fish have a narrow frame, the Lumpsucker tends to be more spherical. They also have skin instead of scales along with a giant dorsal fin. Although the lumpsucker may not be a great swimmer, they have impressive endurance and can travel up to 60 miles. Their diet consists mostly of smaller fish, crustaceans, worms, and jellyfish. Fun fact: The male's stomach turns red during mating and the eggs of the female (aka roe) are a popular alternative to caviar. 4: Snailfish Snailfish, sometimes referred to as Sea Snails, pretty much look like giant tadpoles. They have a large head with small eyes and an elongated body, which resembles an eel. Like the Lumpsucker, this fish also has skin instead of scales. Surprisingly little is known about the snailfish. There are over 410 different species each being different from the rest. Some live in shallow water, while others live in the deepest parts of the ocean. Some are 2 inches long, while others are 30 inches long. Some live in warm water, others live in cold. Some are smooth, some are prickly. Some have a strict diet, others eat anything they can. You get the idea…But all of them are but pretty ugly and they don’t taste great either, fisherman consider them pests. 3: The Goblin Shark The Goblin Shark is real and it certainly lives up to it’s name. The image you are seeing is not photoshopped, the shark actually does look like the offspring of a goblin and a shark. It has a long protruded snout which contains over 50 creepy nail-like teeth and a jaw that extends outward when biting. The skin is an unappealing pinkish white, almost as if it was never fully developed. No only does the goblin shark look and sound creepy, but it acts creepy too! It’s a deep sea bottom dweller, meaning it is found in the deepest and darkest parts of the ocean, 4200 feet below, in pitch black. It’s also considered a “slow moving species”, which it basically means that it’s constantly lurking. Like other sharks, it senses its prey using Electro sensitive organs and uses its extending jaw to snap out for a quick capture. This shark is unlike any other shark, it is a unique species with a lineage dating back 125 million years ago and it’s not related to the ones on earth today. Overall very little is known about goblin shark, mostly because it’s a deep sea creature and humans rarely come in contact with them. But we don’t even know how they mate, a pregnant goblin shark has never been discovered…for all we know it spawns! 2: The Gulper Eel Number 2 on our list is the gulper eel, aka pelican eel. The fish is technically not an eel, but it’s about the closet thing that it resembles. It can be found at depths over 9000 feet below sea level or almost 2 miles deep. Even for the deep sea, this is one of the oddest creatures that has ever been discovered. The fish is dark black in color and can grow up to 31 inches long, but the most notable feature of the Gulper Eel is it’s unusually large mouth which acts as a net to capture prey. The fish also has a stomach capable of stretching which allows for it to consume prey larger than itself. The Gulper Eel is known to not be a very good swimmer, but a small luminous organ at the end of it’s tail acts as a light to help lure and capture prey. Not much is known about this strange creature due to the depths of it’s habitat, but we’re pretty confident that it looks weird. 1: The Blobfish And finally, number 1 on our list: the Blobfish. You’ve likely seen random photos online of this atrocity and may have dismissed them as being photoshopped, but the photos are real and the blob fish actually does look like this, but here’s the catch: it only looks like this out of water. The truth is, we don’t actually know what blobfish looks like in it’s natural environment because the fish is extremely rare and lives at depths over 4000 feet below. And water pressure at this depth is about 100 times stronger than that on land. Because the fish has no skeletal structure, not even teeth, the blobfish becomes heavily, perhaps even morbidly, disfigured when brought to land. Although we’re not certain what the Blobfish actually looks like in the deep sea, it’s likely safe to assume from the pictures that it’s probably still pretty ugly.

Dear Friends, thank you for visiting my channel and for watching this video. All my underwater films and videos were recorded entirely on location in Ireland while free-diving and snorkelling. I'm working entirely alone investing my own money and time which as you can understand limits me very much. Last year I practically had to stop filming and developing my 'Underwater Ireland' project because I had financial difficulties and couldn't afford to spend money or time anymore. To raise some funds for my project development I inserted a PayPal 'Donate' button on my website -- http://www.underwater-ireland.com/sponsors.htm You do not need to be rich and you do not need to have a PayPal account -- all that you need is a desire to help this very unique project to survive and to develop and you need to have a debit or credit card (all transactions are absolutely secure because they go through PayPal). I appreciate ANY! help and even one euro/dollar/pound/etc. can make a real difference. If you provide your name and postal address to contact [at] underwater-ireland.com after the donation I will be happy to send you a small present (my postcards, my DVD or a large photo-print, size up to 30x40cm depending on the amount of the donation). If you can't donate anything -- you can still help by sharing this information and the link to my video channel - http://www.youtube.com/user/underwaterireland and to my website - http://www.underwater-ireland.com Don't forget to come back later -- I hope I'll find an opportunity to show you even more exciting episodes about the underwater world of Ireland. For years now, there have been reported sightings of mermaid-like creatures in Kilauea Falls, Hawaii. But without proof, these eyewitness reports and stories have been dismissed as old wives’ tales and tourism lures. Much like is said about the Loch Ness Monster in Scotland. But these stunning photographs below could well dispel that. They appear to show the body of one of the mysterious half-human/half-fish creatures, washed up on the beach. There’s been no official explanation of the appearance from any Hawaiian authorities, although eyewitness testimonials say that governments officials and scientists were quick on the scene to remove the body. Until now, evidence of aquatic humanoids have been confined to grainy photographs and unclear video footage. But this as yet unidentified creature could well prove to be our finest proof that these famed beings exist. You can clearly see the distinguishing upper body features are that of a human female. And lower down, the bottom half is undoubtedly the kind of body one would expect to find on a sea animal, specifically a fish. The body was only recently discovered and is thought to be currently undergoing tests to determine its origin and potential authenticity at The University of Hawaii’s Institute of Marine Biology in Kaneohe. A thorough examination of the animal should prove conclusive and could, potentially, change the way we look at nature. Sightings of mermaids – and mermen – date back hundreds, if not thousands, of years. Famed explorers such as Christopher Columbus and Captain John Smith (of Pocahontas fame) wrote of their experiences with them whilst exploring the ocean. Smith saw ‘a big-eyed, green-haired mermaid in 1614 off the coast of Newfoundland’ and even claimed to feel ‘love’ for her. that was until he realized that she was in fact a fish from the waist down… Earlier sightings of mermaids on the site where the corpse was washed up have stimulated debate about the potential existence of such things. Here’s what appears to be a mermaid on a rock, just a few hundred metres from where this latest being was found. In 2012, The United States National Ocean Service declared officially that ‘no evidence of mermaids has ever been found’. Might this latest discovery change all that? Maybe. Maybe not. The skeletal remains of what appeared to be a mermaid washed up on a beach in Egypt in 1997 (see below). Tests proved inconclusive, but scientists couldn’t rule out the possibility that what was found was mermaid in origin. Many at the time said that authorities were quick to dismiss the notion without conducting enough in-depth tests. Could it really be a mermaid? Is there another explanation? We look forward to finding out when the lab results come back…

Can eating fish be dangerous? Fish is both delicious and healthy, but there are certain fish that will do you more harm than good for your health. Here are 9 types of fish you should never eat or eat very rarely. Some kinds of fish aren’t recommended for kids at all! Watch till the end to know how to choose fresh fish! To accelerate their growth, many fish farmers feed them hormones. - Mackerel contains mercury which is not cleared from but accumulated in the human body, causing various diseases. - There aren’t many healthy fatty acids in tilapia, yet the concentrations of harmful fats in it are almost as high as in lard. Excess consumption of this fish leads to an increase in cholesterol levels and makes the body more sensitive to allergens. - Eels have lots of fat, and thus easily absorb industrial and farm waste in the water. American species have the highest level of such intoxication. - Most of the pangasius we see in our stores is brought from Vietnam, namely from the Mekong River that is considered one of the most contaminated water bodies in the world. - Tilefish is the leader in mercury contamination, and it’s often caught in breach of the rules, increasing the risk of food poisoning. - Sea bass contains an ample amount of mercury. Sometimes, especially when it’s served as fillet, instead of sea bass, you get pangasius or some other cheaper fish. - Dollarfish, more commonly known as oilfish, contains gempylotoxin — a waxy substance that is not metabolized at all. - Tuna contains lots of mercury, especially blackfin and bluefin tuna. Additionally, there’s precious little free-grown tuna in the stores because it’s nearly extinct. - Fresh fish always has shiny scales and clear eyes. Take a fish in your hands and look — a spoiled fish will have its tail lowered weakly. - When buying live fish from a tank, make sure the water is clear. Choose fish that aren’t near the surface but closer to the bottom. - When buying salmon, choose chunks with white threads in them. If a chunk is completely red, it’s probably been dyed. Diving birds! Pelicans bombing for fish! Nice Pelican pictures! Pelican diving for fish is something! When two pelicans diving for fish it looks exceptionally beautiful! Pelicans are a genus of large water birds comprising the family Pelecanidae. They are characterized by a long beak and large throat pouch used in catching prey and draining water from the scooped up contents before swallowing. They have predominantly pale plumage, the exceptions being the Brown and Peruvian Pelicans. The bills, pouches and bare facial skin of all species become brightly colored before the breeding season. The eight living pelican species have a patchy global distribution, ranging latitudinaly from the tropics to the temperate zone, though they are absent from interior South America as well as from polar regions and the open ocean. Fossil evidence of pelicans dates back at least 30 million years, to the remains of a beak very similar to that of modern species recovered from Oligocene strata in France. Long thought to be related to frigate birds, cormorants, tropic birds, gannets and boobies, pelicans are now known instead to be most closely related to the Shoebill and Hamerkop, and are placed in the order Pelican forms. Ibises, spoonbills and herons are more distant relatives, and have been classified in the same order. Pelicans frequent inland and coastal waters where they feed principally on fish, catching them at or near the water surface. Gregarious birds, they often hunt cooperatively and breed colonially. Four white-plumage species tend to nest on the ground, and four brown or grey-plumage species nest mainly in trees. The relationship between pelicans and people has often been contentious. The birds have been persecuted because of their perceived competition with commercial and recreational fishers. They have suffered from habitat destruction, disturbance and environmental pollution, and three species are of conservation concern. They also have a long history of cultural significance in mythology, and in Christian and heraldic iconography.

From greenland sharks, to the Mekong Giant Catfish that was bigger than a grizzly bear, these are 11 BIGGEST Fish Ever Caught ! A 15 foot greenland shark was reeled in by an angler in a kayak in 2014. Joel Abrahamsson said he trained to capture the massive creature by reeling in 60-pound concrete blocks from a local lake. Then he strapped himself into a harness attached to his fishing rod in the kayak. He struggled with the greenland shark for around 90 minutes before finally capturing the 200-year old animal … which was estimated to weigh more than 1,200 pounds! It’s considered an unofficial record due to kayak fishing records being loosely kept … and the use of estimated weights. The ancient shark was later returned to the water. A fisherman in Cambodia got a big surprise when he inspected his gill net … A Siamese giant carp that weighed around 100 kilograms (220 lbs) was trapped there! Ironically, the fisherman said he had set his nets in a more shallow area of Cambodia’s Tonle Sap Lake (tone-lee sap lake), where smaller fish are usually found. Strong currents were thought to have swept the big fish into the shallow area. After noticing a huge tear in the netting, the fishermen alerted authorities to inspect the massive fish. The carp was later released into a deeper area of the lake. Did you know the Siamese giant carp is considered to be a rare and critically endangered species? Did you know that fishermen in northern Thailand caught a fish that was the size of a grizzly bear? It happened in 2005, and the creature measured almost 9 feet long (2.7 meters) and tipped the scales at 646 pounds (293 kilograms)! The species is understandably known as the Mekong (meh-kong) giant catfish … and you can get an idea of just how massive this creature is in these photos by Suthep Kritsanavarin (Soo-threp Krit-zana-var-en). It seems to dwarf the two men who have spread their arms across the creature’s dorsal area … likely to give the viewer a better sense of scale. The fishermen struggled with the beast for nearly an hour before hauling it in. Eggs were harvested from the fish by Thai Fisheries officials as part of a breeding program … and they later planned to release it. But the huge fish was instead sold to local villages as food after it died in captivity. Did you know this animal is recognized as one of the largest freshwater fish ever caught? A pensioner created some controversy when he landed the largest fish ever caught in the British Isles using rod and line. Joe Waldis managed to reel in a bluntnose sixgill shark that measured 12 feet, 9 inches long … and weighed 1,056 pounds! The animal was too huge to haul it aboard Mr Waldis’s boat off the coast of South-West Ireland. It was eventually towed to an estuary (ess-choo-wary), where it was taken by a forklift and weighed at a local quarry. The controversy arose when the shark was killed and then hauled ashore … that action was deemed necessary in order to verify the record. Many conservationists in the fishing community condemned the killing … saying the creature should have been released back to the sea alive. What do you think? An angler named Guy Kitakoa (kitta-koe-a) was fishing off Kona, Hawaii in 2015 … when he caught a blue marlin that weighed an incredible 1,368 pounds (or over 620 kilograms)! You can see the huge fish in Mr Kitakoa’s picture. Look at how it dwarfs the fisherman … you can get a good idea of the sheer mass of the shiny-skinned critter, as its right fin appears to be sticking straight up. It took some 90 minutes of struggling with the marlin to finally bring it in. It later took seven men to transfer the fish from the 20-foot skiff to a larger yacht. In pictures from Waiopai (why-o-pie) Sportfishing Charters, you can see how five of the men used yellow measuring tape to assess the marlin’s dimensions of 12-feet long with a girth of 84 inches. Additional photos from the same source depict the animal with its bill closed with duct tape as some of the men examine its tail fin. And it later took a flatbed pickup truck to transport the creature away from the docks … just look at how the massive marlin fills up the flatbed. Experts said it was the largest blue marlin caught off Kona in more than two Subscribe to Epic Wildlife http://goo.gl/6rzs5u Let's Connect -- http://www.epicadamwildlife.com/ -- http://www.facebook.com/epicadamwildlife -- http://www.twitter.com/epicwildlife -- http://gplus.to/epicwildlife

In this episode of BlacktipH, Josh is joined once again by NFL star linebacker Sam Barrington from the Green Bay Packers to go fishing for monster goliath groupers off the coast of Florida. We started off the day catching bonito (false albacore) for bait. After catching half a dozen albies for bait, Sam was ready to start goliath grouper fishing. Sam hooked up to his first goliath grouper and immediately got yanked forward. After an intense short fight, Sam Barrington landed his first goliath grouper. The day ended with Sam catching four goliath groupers. Sam's friends Johan and Richard both caught a goliath grouper, adding up a total of six goliath groupers for the day. • Follow Sam on Instagram → http://bit.ly/instagram-sam • Follow Sam on Twitter → http://bit.ly/twitter-sam • Follow Sam on Snapchat → sambarrington ► Ceuticore Nutrition: http://bit.ly/ceuticore ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ ABOUT BLACKTIPH ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ BlacktipH Fishing brings you some of the most exciting fishing videos on the web. Fish Tornado. A huge school of jack tuna (bigeye trevally) swarm together in this amazing display of courtship. They absolutely dwarf the scuba diver. Octavio Aburto released a photo titled "David and Goliath" which was so astounding many believed it was staged or altered. Do you have ANY idea what this fish is? Learn this and much more in the 17 WEIRD Fish Photos Explained ! Bubble-Eyed Goldfish -- Bet you’ve never seen a goldfish like this before. It’s an exotic breed of goldfish that first swam into existence in China in the 1900s. But they have to careful where they swim … Those upward pointing eyes are accompanied by two huge sacs filled with fluid. If the creature swims into an object, those eyes could literally burst! The good news is, the sacs will regrow. This looks like it could be a scene from a horror movie … but it’s actually a wolf fish captured in a picture off the Norwegian coast by photographer Magnus Lundgren. If you look closely to the left, you can see the fish eyeballing a shrimp for its meal. We still say the teeth and leathery skin makes the wolf fish resemble an aquatic Nosferatu. What do you think? Deep Sea Selfies -- In 2014, an Australian diver named Gary Brennand took a series of undersea selfies with various sea creatures … here’s a couple that caught our eye: Here, you see Mr Brennand posing with a Napoleon Wrasse (rass) fish, also known as a Humphead Wrasse. The positioning of the creature and its vibrant coloration almost makes this look like a Photoshop effort, doesn't it? These fish can weigh around 180 We located this picture online and it was so strange we had to include it here. It’s said to be an x-ray of a 12-year-old boy in India … who swallowed a fish as part of some sort of game. You can see the fish alleged fish toward the left. It was still alive at the time this x-ray was taken, but died soon after, according to sources. Some of us at Epic Wildlife thinks this could be genuine … others think it’s a fake, saying we should see the fish’s bones. What do you think? This is a picture of a goldfish … minus its right eye. The unfortunate critter named Star is a pet goldfish that had surgery to remove the cancerous eye. Performed in the UK, the procedure cost Star’s owners over $600, but they claim the fish’s health was worth the expense. That cost also included an operation for another pet fish named Nemo. The veterinarians injected both fish with oxygenated water that contained an anesthetic to put them to sleep for the procedures. Last we heard, Star and Nemo were recovering from their surgeries. We’ll keep an eye out for more details. Here’s another case of a goldfish being operated on … this time in Australia. As you can see, this goldfish was breathing through a tube down its throat as it received surgery to have a large tumor removed from its head, which made it difficult to swim and see. That ball-like mass in the veterinarian’s hand is the tumor they removed. A fisherman in southern China was shocked when he went to his pond to choose a fish for dinner. He found a pair of conjoined fish there, instead. The odd-looking growth underneath the fish is actually the smaller twin. The Nile tilapia fish became something of an attraction in the neighborhood … maybe it was a case of Siamese fins. Blue Lingcod -- did you think you were looking at a creature from Star Wars at first? This weird looking creature is actually a Lingcod … a fish native to the North American west coast … from the Gulf of Alaska to Baja, California. They’re big creatures, weighing up to 130 pounds and measuring up to 5 feet long. You can see how huge the mouth is … the voracious predators feed on anything that they can jam in there … including many species of fish including herring, salmon and rockfish. Did you know the Lingcod isn’t related to either the Ling or Cod fish … but it does resemble both fish, hence the name ‘Lingcod’. Gotcha! -- Does it look like some sort of artistic pattern? It’s actually a Mimic Blenny Fish that has taken shelter in the coral. You can see his head pop out of the center as he scans for larger predators like a hungry octopus in the vicinity. These fish actually position themselves in holes within the coral made by worms. After hiding from the octopus this little fella tried to hide from the photographer … but he got caught all the same -- on film, anyway! Here’s a fish that literally had a frog in its throat. After an angler in Queensland, Australia pulled in a jungle perch to retrieve the lure, he discovered a jolly green frog nestled inside the fish’s mouth. And just take a look at that amphibian … it looks pretty smug to be so down in the mouth. But the moment didn’t last long. Once the fisherman disturbed the creature, the frog escaped by jumping straight over the man’s head. Do you think it found another mouth to call home? After an introduction to 2 small and common members of the grouper family, the blacktip grouper, Epinephelus fasciatus, and longfin grouper, Epinephelus quoyanus, we meet 2 of the biggest species, the brown-marbled grouper, Epinephelus fuscoguttatus, at Richelieu Rock in Thailand, and a friendly potato cod, Epinephelus tukula, at the Burma Banks in Myanmar. At the Similan Islands we then encounter the largest wrasse, the humphead wrasse, Cheilinus undulatus, sometimes known as the Napoleon wrasse, and the impressive green humphead parrotfish (bumphead parrotfish), Bolbometopon muricatum. We then take a look at the great barracuda, Sphyraena barracuda, in Burma and three different species of trevally, or jacks: The giant trevally, Caranx ignobilis, the golden trevally, Gnathanodon speciosus, and the bluefin trevally, Caranx melampygus. There will be footage of more species of barracuda and trevally in a later episode about schooling fish. Flying fish can make powerful, self-propelled leaps out of water into air, where their long, wing-like fins enable gliding flight for considerable distances. It appears these Flying Fish are in a no win situation, picked off above the surface by Frigatebird's and devoured underwater by the Dorado. In this episode of Upgrade, Motherboard goes to Baja California, Mexico to get a firsthand look at these free floating pods, and to get an understanding for why we need better ways to cultivate our future food sources. Whether it’s found on a plate of sushi, grilled in our backyard, or thrown on pasta, seafood is a staple for many diets around the world, and demand is growing. And as the commercial seafood industry booms, fish stocks worldwide face perilous declines. We’ve surpassed our capacity to sustainably fish wild caught fish, shrimp, and mollusks from the ocean, and so we’ve turned to aquaculture, or fish farming, as a strategy to meet demand for our growing appetites for water-borne critters. The aquaculture industry is growing fast. According to the FAO, per capita production of seafood from aquaculture has increased 6.9 percent annually since 1970. Unfortunately for us and for our Earth, current methods of fish farming often involve crowded, tethered pens, which can have poor water circulation and contribute to the spread of disease, and put large amounts of environmental stress on the surrounding waterways. This is where Steve Page of Ocean Farm Technologies comes in. Taking inspiration from naturally-occurring schools of fish and Buckminster Fuller’s geodesic domes, Page co-designed the Aquapod, a free floating, untethered deep ocean fish habitat which reduces overcrowding, and creates less stress on surrounding environments due to its unique ability to change location with the ocean's current. 10 Most Dangerous Water Animals In The World ► Subscribe: https://goo.gl/vHN6qB For copyright matters please contact us at: [email protected] There are many different types of creatures that live in streams, lakes, seas and oceans. And while many of these creatures are harmless, there are many that are incredibly dangerous if you happen to have an encounter with them. These dangerous animals lurk beneath the surface of the water in a world vastly different than ours, and must be deadly to survive. Join us as we take a look at 10 of the most dangerous water creatures. 10. Australian Box Jellyfish – This creature is not one to be messed around with if you happen to swim into a swarm of them. And while they may seem harmless, the Australian box jellyfish is considered to be the most venomous marine animal in the world. They have tentacles that are covered with tiny darts called nematocysts, and they are loaded with poison. 9. Flower Urchin – Beautiful but deadly, these sea urchins are extremely venomous. They look like a bouquet of small flowers; to which they get their name from. They feed on invertebrates, sponges, and dead fish, and have well developed jaws for grinding up their prey. 8. The Saltwater Crocodile – Evolving around 200 million years in the Mesozoic epoch, crocodiles have far outlived the dinosaurs. The Salt water crocodile is the world’s largest reptile, and they have been known to grow up to 27 feet long and weigh 2,465 lbs. 7. Textile Cone Snail – Mother nature teaches us that anything in nature that is beautiful, is most likely deadly, and a warning to predators and humans to not touch or disturb them. This holds true for the Textile Cone Snail. 6. The Sea Snake – These highly venomous marine snakes are closely related and belong to the same family as the cobra. There are two independently evolved groups: the true sea snakes which are related to Australian terrestrial elapids, and the sea kraits which are related to Asian cobras. 5. The Lionfish – Lionfish are skilled hunters, using specialized bilateral swim bladder muscles to provide exquisite control of location in the water column, allowing the fish to alter its center of gravity to better attack prey. The lionfish then spreads its large pectoral fins and swallows its prey in a single motion. 4. The Stingray – Stingrays are a group of rays, which are cartilaginous fish related to sharks, and are one of the oceans deadliest creatures. Most stingrays have one or more barbed stingers on their tails, which are used exclusively for self-defense. 3. Blue-Ringed Octopus – This octopus has some of the most striking colors of any ocean creature. They get their name from the brightly blue colored rings on its body. 2. Needlefish – These strange looking creatures are very slender, and have a single dorsal fin, placed far back on the body. Needlefish are capable of making short jumps out of the water at up to 37 mph. Since Needlefish swim near the surface, they often leap over the decks of shallow boats rather than going around. 1. The Moray Eel - Most attacks stem from disruption of a moray's burrow to which they react strongly, but an increasing number of accidents also occur during hand feeding of morays by divers, an activity often used by dive companies to attract tourists.

Frilled Shark The frilled shark has been around a long, LONG time. They’re ‘living fossils’, thought to have been swimming around for anywhere between 95 and 300 million years! Also while they were first discovered in approx 1880 they weren’t actually described until 2004 (the same ROV mission as the barreleye fish). This is one predator that really knows how to keep its head down. It lives at a depth of over 5,000 ft (1524 m). 9. Hatchet Fish Okay so if you came face to face with this dude you’d get one hell of a shock right? Meet the deep sea hatchet fish, so called because of its metallic, hatchet-shaped appearance. It can be found 5,000 ft (1,524 m) down. The metal like quality comes from its scales which is just as well because if it weren’t so shiny you’d have trouble seeing it! 8. Seadevil Anglerfish You’ve probably seen this one in the movies. A seadevil anglerfish appeared in Finding Nemo and the image has been used in some high profile shows like The Simpsons. They were first described in 1864 and can live at a depth of over 6,000 feet (1900 m). Like many deep sea species its movements are mysterious to experts and the only one filmed alive was in 2014. 7. Telescope Octopus Some deep sea animals like to take it easy, I mean there’s a lot of pressure down there!! Maybe none more so than the telescope octopus. Living anywhere from 500 - 6,500 ft (150 - 2000 m) below the surface it’s really laid back. In fact that’s literally what it does… lie back and use its eyes to look up for any food swimming by. 6. Benthocodon Usually when you think of a jellyfish you think of a transparent wobbly thing that stings your foot. Well not this one. The benthocodon isn’t transparent. It has a round, red top which is 2 - 3 cm in diameter and it won’t sting you unless you run into it 2,500 ft (762 m) below the surface. You’d have to be pretty crazy to be at that depth and even crazier without any flippers! 5. Barreleye Fish This fish with a transparent head shocked viewers when it appeared on Blue Planet! Also known as a “spookfish” it has a jelly-like forehead that allows it to look up through its skull, giving it greater visibility! Pretty freaky huh? It is a very efficient hunter that can live at a depth of at least 2,600 feet (800 m) and can be anywhere from 15 to 40 cm long. 4. Goblin Shark This shark is one ugly shark, hence why we call it the goblin shark! Of course I wouldn’t say that to its face poor thing! But its sword-like snout and prehistoric appearance makes it truly unique. 3. Zombie Worm Zombie worms, also known as bone-eating worms, were discovered by accident in 2002 when they appeared to be drilling into the skeletons of dead animals like whales and fish. This confused experts because they looked too squishy to be able to drill like that, but that is how they got their name. The answer came later on in 2012. 2. Foraminifera Foraminifera or ‘fora’ are tiny organisms from the ‘protist’ family. They vary between 100 micrometers and around 20 cm. Because many of them are so small and I’m guessing chewy, they are a prime source of food in the Mariana Trench. That’s a shame because there’s a lot more to these little things than meets the eye. 1. Ping Pong Tree Sponge The strangest name on our list is also the nastiest! Sure, Ping Pong Tree Sponge sounds like something out of Spongebob Squarepants and it’s one beautiful-looking life form. But despite this charming exterior this isn’t a thing to be messed with! It lives nearly 9000 ft (2743 m) underwater and if you’re a small creature it spells bad news.
