Complementary and Alternative Medicine - What You Need To Know

See much more honest health information at: http://www.rehealthify.com/ Rehealthify offers reliable, up-to-date health information, anytime, anywhere, for free. -- video script below -- Complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) is the term for medical products and practices that are not part of standard care. Standard care is what medical doctors, doctors of osteopathy, and allied health professionals, such as nurses and physical therapists, practice. Complementary medicine is used together with standard medical care. An example is using acupuncture to help with side effects of cancer treatment. Alternative medicine is used in place of standard medical care. An example is treating heart disease with chelation therapy (which seeks to remove excess metals from the blood) instead of using a standard approach. The claims that CAM treatment providers make can sound promising. However, researchers do not know how safe many CAM treatments are or how well they work. Studies are underway to determine the safety and usefulness of many CAM practices. To minimize the health risks of a CAM treatment Discuss it with your doctor. It might have side effects or interact with other medicines Find out what the research says about it Choose CAM practitioners carefully Tell all of your doctors and practitioners which CAM and standard treatments you use NIH: National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine

Schizophrenia Recovery without Medication—Hearing Voices

04:46
http://wildtruth.net/films-english ••• Here I interview Lloyd Ross, PhD, about his work with a patient (whose identity he has disguised) who had murderous command hallucinations (voices commanding her to do things—in this case, to "kill"). It is a beautiful vignette that shines a light on what can be possible through intensive psychotherapy with people diagnosed with schizophrenia. Full recovery without medication is possible, and research shows that it actually is quite common. Dr. Ross is a gifted and courageous psychologist and a leading member of ISEPP (www.psychintegrity.org/), and I dedicated my most recent music album to him. That album, in case you're interested, is "Songs from the Locked Ward"—all songs showing the dangers of psychiatric medication and the horrors of conventional psychiatry. If you wish to hear clips from it (or buy it) feel free to visit my website: http://wildtruth.net/songs-from-the-locked-ward/

Jaundice Treatment – Traditional and Alternative Approaches!

06:15
http://utahtexans.com/ Click on the link above for a free video guide to dietary supplements and alternative medicines! In this video I'm going to share with you jaundice treatment when it comes to alternative medicine, as well as some traditional approaches. Just like your automobile has an oil filter to clean oil, your body needs something to clean blood and it's the liver. When the liver breaks down used red blood cells it creates something known as bilirubin that is removed by the body through feces. This bilirubin gives feces that brownish color. Jaundice takes place when something prevents the liver from creating bilirubin. As bilirubin starts to accumulate in the blood stream it can give someone a yellowish color to their skin and eyes. If someone's stools do not appear brownish in color then this could also indicate this condition. The type of treatment to cure jaundice depends on what is causing it. If someone is a heavy drinker then a great treatment would be to stop abusing alcohol. Perhaps it's a virus that is disrupting the livers ability to function normally. If that is the case then a doctor may prescribe anti-viral prescription drugs. The problem with prescription drugs is it creates negative side effects, as well as free radicals. Another idea is to use herbal remedies and there are tons of choices. One great herbal remedies is to drink tea. There was a study done by Harvard that concluded that people who drank 5 cups of black tea a day for 2 week had 10 times more virus-fighting interferon than people who just drank a placebo hot drink. Interferon interferes with a virus's ability to replicate. That is just one herb and there are tons of others such as garlic, ginger, olive leaf extract and andrographis. Perhaps it's a bacteria that is causing jaundice and antibiotics could be prescribed. One of the negative side effects of antibiotics is that it could kill the healthy bacteria in the digestive system. An alternative medicine would be to use herbal remedies like a few that I suggested earlier, which also help. In severe cases a liver transplant is an option, but only a small number of people are candidates and the amount of donated livers are limited. After eliminating what is causing jaundice the next step would be to heal the liver. One idea that could help you is turmeric. South Korean researchers at the Clinical Trial Center for Functional Foods took 60 patients that were experiencing mild to elevated levels of liver damage or dysfunction. Some of the group received 3 grams per fermented turmeric powder or a placebo for 12 weeks. The result was that turmeric significantly reduced ALT, AST and GGT levels. When these levels are elevated its associated with liver damage. Also turmeric was well tolerated and there were no significant adverse side effects. Another cause of this medical condition is when the bile duct system becomes blocked and it's known as post-hapatic jaundice. Unfortunately there is no quick fix for this and surgery is often recommended. To sum everything up jaundice treatment depends on what is causing it. If it's a virus then antiviral medicine can be used and an alternative medicine could be herbs. If it's a bacteria then antibiotics would probably be prescribed. Liver transplants and surgery are a few other treatments that might be needed. To heal the liver a great idea would be to use turmeric. Supplements and alternative medicine can be confusing and even harmful. Make things really simple and give your body a HUGE edge by viewing a free video guide I created at http://utahtexans.com/.

Medicine Is Much More Than Just A Prescription!

01:20
At Hobdari Family Health, we believe that medicine is not about just writing a prescription. You must treat the body, mind and spirit…the whole person. There is generally a prescription that is going to take care of a problem, but there are other approaches to help the patient also. These go all the way back to the roots of medicine, when we started to treat different diseases with herbal medications. I do a lot of the herbal approach. For example, the simple herb Oregano is very helpful. It can be a good way to treat simple diarrhea. All you do is sprinkle a little Oregano Oil, and you are done. There is no medication. You let the nature do the healing. Now there are going to be a lot of alternative approaches that may, or may NOT be appropriate. When I look at all the research, I discuss it with the patient and always, we do this jointly, together. I enjoy what I do, I try to alternate traditional with alternative medicine, to bring the best outcome for the patients.
New Alternative Medicine Approaches to Brain Health

55:00
2017 UC Davis Alzheimer's Community Engagement Series This is the fourth lecture in a six part series offered by the UC Davis Alzheimer's Disease Center for the Sacramento metropolitan area and communities throughout Northern California. The theme of this year’s series is healthy brain aging and prevention. Six lectures, planned around this theme, include preventative information on healthy brain aging, vitamins and supplements, diet, alternative medicine approaches, social interaction and exercise. With increasing numbers of adults living longer, the prevalence of cognitive impairment, Alzheimer’s disease, and related disorders is on the rise. These declines in functional abilities and quality of life have resulted in a growing emphasis on maintaining brain health. A new field of research is emerging in the effectiveness of brain health and wellness classes to improve cognitive function in older individuals and those with brain injuries. An overview of this research and preliminary findings by a team of researchers from the VA Northern California Health System and University of California Davis will be the subject of this talk. Dr. Juliana Baldo is Associate Director of the Center for Aphasia and Related Disorders at the Northern California Veterans Administration. She is a clinical psychologist with extensive experience studying individuals with brain injury. Her research program has focused on studying the behavioral and neural correlates of cognitive and language changes due to brain injury.

Mom Refuses Ritalin and Heals Her ADHD Autism Kids With Natural Medicine

http://www.thenaturalguide.com - (Video by Larry Cook) Deborah Merlin raised prematurely born twin sons diagnosed with a host of medical problems and neurological challenges. She refused to put her children on Ritalin or other stimulant medications while at the same time the other conventional medicine treatments and therapies she tried resulted in multiple failures. After seven years of determined research she finally found success with dietary change, supplements and natural medicine therapies prescribed by an integrative medical doctor. Her integrative medical doctor ordered an amino acid panel and found that one of her sons was deficient in several amino acids. Amino acids are the building blocks of neurotransmitters in the brain. Shortly after her son started on the amino acid supplements, his facial tics stopped, his violent behavior went away, his seizures disappeared, he became happier, and remarkably, he went from failing in school to getting A's and B's in school. Watch the video to hear the whole story, and then order her book, "VICTORY OVER ADHD: a holistic approach for helping children with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder" from http://www.amazon.com or her website http://www.victoryoveradhd.com. Healing Techniques of Traditional Chinese Medicine

03:55
Traditional Chinese medicine is a holistic medical approach used to diagnose, heal, and prevent illnesses. New York-based traditional Chinese medical doctor Deng Zhenqiu says Chinese medicine is rooted in ancient Chinese culture. [Deng Zhenqiu, Traditional Chinese Medical Doctor]: "Traditional Chinese medicine has a history of 3,000 years—with a written record of 2,000 years." Deng talks about the origins of the term Chinese medicine. [Deng Zhenqiu, Traditional Chinese Medical Doctor]: "Some people consider the term 'Zhong Yi' as meaning Chinese medical practice, hence the name Chinese Medicine or Zhong Yi. Actually, the first character, Zhong, also means to bring the unbalanced Yin and Yang back to the middle and balanced way. Just like what Confucius means by saying 'Zhong Yong' in the Doctrine of the Mean." Deng, who has been practicing Chinese medicine for 25 years in Manhattan's Chinatown, explains that in addition to balancing Yin and Yang, Chinese medicine also uses the five elements theory. [Deng Zhenqiu, Traditional Chinese Medical Doctor]: "The Five Elements are metal, wood, water, fire, and earth . Metal corresponds with the lungs. Fire to Heart, Wood to liver, water to kidneys, and earth with the Spleen. Traditional Chinese medicine uses the theory of the Five Elements—mutually reinforcing and neutralizing each other—to treat illnesses." Today, the two most common Chinese medical practices in the Western society are herbal medicine and acupuncture. Traditional Chinese medical doctor Zhang Yi has been practicing acupuncture and herbal medicine for nearly 27 years from her clinic on East Broadway, Manhattan. Zhang speaks about how acupuncture works—that it's based on the concept of the flow of energy through the body along "pathways" called meridians. [Zhang Yi, Traditional Chinese Medical Doctor]: "If any energy pathway was found to have a problem, acupuncture is applied to unblock the acupuncture points to allow a smooth energy flow and the illness can be healed." Zhang says the diagnosis process starts from the moment the patient arrives. [Zhang Yi, Traditional Chinese Medical Doctor]: "When a patient enters the room, I will look of his or her posture. If the patient appears tense around the abdomen, it may mean he or she has some problem there. The next step is to examine the eyes. Some people have red eyes. Some find it hard to keep their eyes open. Then I will feel his or her pulse. This is to find out if the patient suffers from a weak Yin, or a weak Yang, or if any of his or her organs have problems. Then I'll look at the tongue." Deng says Chinese medicine uses a different approach to Western medicine. [Deng Zhenqiu, Traditional Chinese Medical Doctor]: "Chinese medicine is different, it looks holistically. If you've a headache, they look for the reasons. There're many different reasons for a headache. If it's a cold, it can be caused by chill, or heat. Chinese medicine looks for the exact causes. Then it balances the Five Elements and Yin and Yang. The healing effect is really good." Zhang says traditional Chinese medicine treats the root of the problem. [Zhang Yi, Traditional Chinese Medical Doctor]: "Let's take a cough as an example. Western medicine will give medicine to discharge the phlegm. These drugs often make the patients drowsy and affect their work whereas Chinese medicine does not have such side effects. Instead Chinese medicine focuses on strengthening the spleen...because a weak spleen will cause a build-up of phlegm, which leads to coughing." The two different approaches complement each other. [Zhang Yi, Traditional Chinese Medical Doctor]: "If there's an epidemic of illness, western methods can treat it faster. For chronic illness, or the start of an illness, then Chinese medicine is better." Today, traditional Chinese medicine plays an increasingly important role in Western society. More individuals are now seeking traditional Chinese medicine as a holistic approach for health and healing.

Perimenopausal bleeding - Alternative medicine

03:49
Alternative medicine http://perimenopausalbleeding.mymenopauseonline.com/ In addition to conventional therapies, many women transitioning toward menopause want to know more about complementary and alternative approaches to treating their symptoms. Researchers are looking into these therapies, hoping to determine their safety and effectiveness, but evidence is still often lacking. Be sure to tell your doctor about any complementary or alternative therapy you are using or considering. Here are a few options that show some potential for treating menopausal symptoms while still being fairly safe: * Black cohosh. This herb extract is used to treat hot flashes and other menopausal symptoms. While various studies show that it does reduce menopause-related symptoms such as hot flashes, design flaws in these studies and variations in the product itself make it difficult to arrive at definite conclusions. Overall, black cohosh appears relatively safe, but avoid it if you have a liver disorder. If you'd like to try it, discuss it with your doctor first. * Phytoestrogens. These are plant-derived compounds that have estrogen-like properties. There are two main types of phytoestrogens — isoflavones and lignans. Isoflavone supplements are generally extracted from soy or red clover. They may be helpful for mild hot flashes and have a protective effect on your bone density. They may also help decrease blood pressure and low-density lipoprotein (LDL or "bad") cholesterol. Lignans are derived mainly from flaxseed. Fewer studies support their use in treating menopausal symptoms, although they also may help improve cholesterol. Be careful using phyotestrogen supplements if you have an increased risk of a disease or condition that's affected by hormones, such as uterine fibroids, endometriosis, or breast, uterine or ovarian cancer. Also, be cautious if you're already taking a medication that increases your level of estrogen, such as birth control pills, hormone therapy or tamoxifen. * Dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA). This is a natural steroid that's produced by your adrenal gland. Some studies show that DHEA supplements help minimize menopausal symptoms such as hot flashes, vaginal atrophy, sexual dysfunction and bone loss. But other studies have found no such evidence, and several studies have reported harmful effects from high doses of DHEA, so more research is needed. Although study results have been mixed, other complementary therapies with low-risk profiles such as acupuncture, yoga and paced breathing have shown some benefit in improving menopausal symptoms. These therapies may help reduce stress and improve psychological well-being, as well. Talk to your doctor about what complementary and alternative therapies may be helpful to you.

Be My Friend - http://www.myspace.com/psychtruth When treating a patient we strive to provide more than just rapid relief of your immediate symptoms. We focus on your overall health examining nutritional, metabolic, immune, hormonal, structural, and any toxicological factors in which you may be involved. Through a personal and comprehensive examination, we try to get to the source of your condition enabling you to restore your health. We also look at emotional and psychological factors as these create the background which shapes every aspect of your health and well-being. Most conditions whether it involves heart disease, fatigue, arthritis, cancer, headaches, chronic infections, allergies, elevated cholesterol, depression, anxiety, PMS, menopause, autism, diabetes, osteoporosis, etc. are manageable if the underlying causes are more fully understood. That doesn't mean we only use the latest fad or herb to cover up your symptoms. Rather, we apply scientific principles in a practical and logical way to solve your medical needs. That means asking the right questions, careful listening, complete examinations of your physical and biochemical state and understanding how you function within your own environment. If necessary, select labs that identify your nutritional needs, allergies, hormonal status, metabolic efficiency, etc. can be performed. When it is all put together, a practical and personalized plan will be agreed upon that is designed to not only get rid of symptoms you don't have to live with but also create a healthier, happier, more vital you.
