Calculate query performance with Explain Plan in Oracle PLSQL.

09:14
Explain plan is a wonderful utility in Oracle PL SQL. It helps you to understand how much cost a query takes to perform based on indexed table or table without index. In this oracle tutorial a full description is given on a table containing huge number of rows first based on index on a column and then without index.

LNNVL FUNCTION IN ORACLE SQL

09:11
This video is the 5th video in the series of 'working with null', this video explains the working of the lnnvl function in oracle sql with simple and easy to understand example. LNNVL provides a concise way to evaluate a condition when one or both operands of the condition may be null. The function can be used only in the WHERE clause of a query. It takes as an argument a condition and returns TRUE if the condition is FALSE or UNKNOWN and FALSE if the condition is TRUE. LNNVL can be used anywhere a scalar expression can appear, even in contexts where the IS [NOT] NULL, AND, or OR conditions are not valid but would otherwise be required to account for potential nulls. Oracle Database sometimes uses the LNNVL function internally in this way to rewrite NOT IN conditions as NOT EXISTS conditions. In such cases, output from EXPLAIN PLAN shows this operation in the plan table output. The condition can evaluate any scalar values but cannot be a compound condition containing AND, OR, or BETWEEN.

How Modern SQL Databases Come up with Algorithms that You Would Have Never Dreamed Of (vJUG)

47:11
SQL is the only ever successful, mainstream, and general-purpose 4GL (Fourth Generation Programming Language) and it is awesome! With modern cost based optimisation, relational databases like Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL finally keep up to the promise of a powerful declarative programming model by adapting to ever changing productive data without performance penalties. Thousand-line-long, complex SQL statements can be run in far below a millisecond against billion-row strong tables if database developers know their ways around the SQL language - and the best news is: It's not that hard! In this talk, I'll show how the SQL database will constantly outperform any hand written data retrieval algorithm - or in other words - how SQL, being a logic language, is the best language for business logic. Simon Maple Simon is a Developer Advocate at ZeroTurnaround, and is all about community discussion and interaction. His passion around technical communities led him to become the founder and organiser of the vJUG (virtualJUG), as well as continuing to be an active leader of the London Java Community (LJC). SQL Server 2012 Replication Snapshot Replication Configuration

47:53
Concepts of Replication in SQL Server 2012 and Configuration of Snapshot replication in SQL Server 2012. Features of SQL Server 2012 Replication Updatable subscriptions with transactional publications are discontinued. Four new stored procedures provide replication support for AlwaysOn. sp_get_redirected_publisher sp_redirect_publisher sp_validate_replica_hosts_as_publishers sp_validate_redirected_publisher Replication supports the following features on Availability groups: A publication database can be part of an availability group. The publisher instances must share a common distributor. In an AlwaysOn Availability Group, an AlwaysOn secondary cannot be a publisher. Republishing is not supported when replication is combined with AlwaysOn. Heterogeneous replication to non-SQL Server subscribers is deprecated. To move data, create solutions using change data capture and SSIS. Oracle Publishing is deprecated. SQL Server replication is based on the concept of “Publish and Subscribe”. Publisher It is a source database where replication starts. It makes data available for replication. Publishers define what they publish through a publication. Article Articles are the actual database objects like tables, views, indexes, etc. An article can be filtered when sent to the subscriber. Publication A group of articles is called publication. An article can’t be distributed individually. Hence publication is required. Distributor It is intermediary between publisher and subscriber. It receives published transactions or snapshots and then stores and forwards these publications to the subscriber. It has 6 system databases including distribution. Subscriber It is the destination database where replication ends. It can subscribe to multiple publications from multiple publishers. It can send data back to publisher or publish data to other subscribers. Subscription It is a request by a subscriber to receive a publication. We have two types of subscriptions - push and pull. Push Subscriptions With this subscription, the publisher is responsible for updating all the changes to the subscriber without the subscriber asking those changes. Push subscriptions are created at the Publisher server Pull Subscriptions - With this subscription the subscriber initiates the replication instead of the publisher. The subscriptions are created at the Subscriber server. Replication process works in the background with the help of jobs. These jobs are also called as agents. These jobs internally uses respective .exe files present in  \110\COM folder. All the agents information is present in Distribution db in the following tables. dbo.MSxxx_agents dbo.MSxxx_history Snapshot Agent It is an executable file that prepares snapshot files containing schema and data of published tables and db objects. It stores the files in the snapshot folder, and records synchronization jobs in the distribution database. Distribution Agent It is used with snapshot and transactional replication. It applies the initial snapshot to the Subscriber and moves transactions held in the Distribution db to Subscribers. It runs at either the Distributor for push subscriptions or at the Subscriber for pull subscriptions. Log Reader Agent It is used with transactional replication, which moves transactions marked for replication from the transaction log on the publisher to the distribution db. Each db has its own Log Reader Agent that runs on the Distributor and connects to the Publisher. Merge Agent Snapshot Replication Transactional Replication Merge Replication The snapshot process is commonly used to provide the initial set of data and database objects for transactional and merge publications. It copies and distributes data and database objects exactly as they appear at the current moment of time. Snapshot replication is used to provide the initial data set for transactional and merge replication. It can also be used when complete refreshes of data are appropriate. Scenarios When the data is not changing frequently. If we want to replicate small amount of data. To replicate Look-up tables which are not changing frequently. It is acceptable to have copies of data that are out of date with respect to the publisher for a period of time For example, if a sales organization maintains a product price list and the prices are all updated at the same time once or twice each year, replicating the entire snapshot of data after it has changed is recommended To Learn or Teach Linux visit www.theskillpedia.com, A Marketplace for Learners and Trainers.

Dynamic sql table name variable

This is one of the sql questions that is very commonly asked. I have a web page with a textbox. When I enter a table name in the textbox and when I click "Load Data" button, we want to retrieve data from that respective table and display it on the page. Copy the SQL Script to create the tables from my blog using the link below http://csharp-video-tutorials.blogspot.com/2017/04/dynamic-sql-table-name-variable.html Create the following stored procedure. Notice we are passing table name as a parameter to the stored prcoedure. In the body of the stored procedure we are concatenating strings to build our dynamic sql statement. In our previous videos we discussed that this open doors for SQL injection. Create procedure spDynamicTableName @TableName nvarchar(100) As Begin Declare @sql nvarchar(max) Set @sql = 'Select * from ' + @TableName Execute sp_executesql @sql End So the obvious question that comes to our mind is, why are we not creating parameterised sql statement instead. The answers is we can't. SQL Server does not allow table names and column names to be passed as parameters. Notice in the example below, we are creating a parameterised query with @TabName as a parameter. When we execute the following code, the procedure gets created successfully. Create procedure spDynamicTableName1 @TableName nvarchar(100) As Begin Declare @sql nvarchar(max) Set @sql = 'Select * from @TabName' Execute sp_executesql @sql, N'@TabName nvarchar(100)', @TabName = @TableName End But when we try to execute it we get an error - Must declare the table variable "@TabName" Execute spDynamicTableName1 N'Countries' Add a Web Page to the project that we have been working with in our previous video. Name it "DynamicTableName.aspx". Copy and paste the HTML from my blog using the link below http://csharp-video-tutorials.blogspot.com/2017/04/dynamic-sql-table-name-variable.html Copy and paste the code from my blog in the code-behind page http://csharp-video-tutorials.blogspot.com/2017/04/dynamic-sql-table-name-variable.html At this point, run the application and type the following text in the "Table Name" textbox and click "Load Data" button. Notice "SalesDB" database is dropped. Our application is prone to SQL injection as we have implemented dynamic sql in our stored procedure by concatenating strings instead of using parameters. Employees; Drop database SalesDB One way to prevent SQL injection in this case is by using SQL Server built-in function - QUOTENAME(). We will discuss QUOTENAME() function in detail in our next video. For now understand that by default, this function wraps that string that is passed to it in a pair of brackets. SELECT QUOTENAME('Employees') returns [Employees] Modify the stored procedure to use QUOTENAME() function as shown below. Alter procedure spDynamicTableName @TableName nvarchar(100) As Begin Declare @sql nvarchar(max) Set @sql = 'Select * from ' + QUOTENAME(@TableName) Execute sp_executesql @sql End At this point, type the following text in the "Table Name" textbox and click "Load Data" button. Notice you will see a message - Invalid object name 'Employees; Drop database SalesDB'. Also "SalesDB" database is not dropped. Employees; Drop database SalesDB The entire text in "Table Name" textbox is wrapped in a pair of brackets by the QUOTENAME function and is treated as table name. Since we do have a table with the specified name, we get the error - Invalid object name.

SQL with Oracle 10g XE - Using INSERT to Add Data to a Table

06:20
In this video I use the INSERT command to add an entire record into a table. When using the command you must also use the keyword VALUES. If you want to enter a null value (one that has no value) for a field you can use the keyword NULL. Be sure to put single quotes around data types that are not numbers. Values need to be entered in the order the fields appear in the table. The commands I used are: INSERT INTO BOOKS VALUES (1,'140231862','9780140231861','The Winter King: A Novel of Arthur','Fiction','14.99','P',1996,1,2) INSERT INTO BOOKS VALUES ('2','140232478','9780140232479','Enemy of God: A Novel of Arthor','Fiction',14.99,'P','1997',1,2); INSERT INTO BOOKS VALUES ('3','140232877','9780140232875','Excalibur: A Novel of Arthor','Fiction',14.99,'P','1998',1,2); INSERT INTO BOOKS VALUES ('4','6513840','9780006513841','Harlequin: Grail Quest','Fiction',19.99,'P','2001',1,1); INSERT INTO BOOKS VALUES ('5','6513859','9780006513858','Vagabond: Grail Quest','Fiction',19.99,'P','2003',1,1); INSERT INTO BOOKS VALUES ('6','7149891','9780007149896','Heretic: Grail Quest','Fiction',19.99,'P','2004',1,1); INSERT INTO BOOKS VALUES ('7','553103547','9780553103540','A Game of Thrones','Fiction',13.99,'H','1996',2,4); INSERT INTO BOOKS VALUES ('8','553801473','9780553801477','A Dance with Dragons','Fiction',13.99,'H','2010',2,5); INSERT INTO BOOKS VALUES ('9','055357342X','9780553573428','A Storm of Swords','Fiction',4.99,'P','2003',2,4); INSERT INTO BOOKS VALUES ('10','1596590424','9781596590427','50 Success Classics','Audio',17.99,NULL,NULL,3,3) INSERT INTO AUTHOR VALUES (1,'Cornwell','Bernard'); INSERT INTO AUTHOR VALUES (2,'Martin','George'); INSERT INTO AUTHOR VALUES (3,'Butler','Tom'); INSERT INTO PUBLISHER VALUES (1,'HarperCollins Publishers Canada, Limited'); INSERT INTO PUBLISHER VALUES (2,'Penguin Books Canada, Limited'); INSERT INTO PUBLISHER VALUES (3,'Gildan Media Corp'); INSERT INTO PUBLISHER VALUES (4,'Bantam Dell Pub Group'); INSERT INTO PUBLISHER VALUES (5,'Spectra'); This video is part of a series of videos with the purpose of learning the SQL language. SQL with Oracle 10g XE - Creating Calculated Columns with SELECT

05:06
In this video I create a calculated field based off the data from an existing column. When creating a calculated column you can use addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. In the video I increased a column by 10 percent, decreased it by 15 percent and divided it in half. The results are not stored in the table, but are created on-the-fly. If you need parenthesis you can use them to change the order of operations in your math calculation. This video is part of a series of videos with the purpose of learning the SQL language. 01 Overview of table Partition in oracle

07:26
Partitioning enhances the performance, manageability, and availability of a wide variety of applications and helps reduce the total cost of ownership for storing large amounts of data. Partitioning allows tables, indexes, and index-organized tables to be subdivided into smaller pieces, enabling these database objects to be managed and accessed at a finer level of granularity. Oracle provides a rich variety of partitioning strategies and extensions to address every business requirement. Moreover, since it is entirely transparent, partitioning can be applied to almost any application without the need for potentially expensive and time consuming application changes. Partitioning allows a table, index, or index-organized table to be subdivided into smaller pieces, where each piece of such a database object is called a partition. Each partition has its own name, and may optionally have its own storage characteristics. From the perspective of a database administrator, a partitioned object has multiple pieces that can be managed either collectively or individually. This gives the administrator considerable flexibility in managing partitioned objects. However, from the perspective of the application, a partitioned table is identical to a non-partitioned table; no modifications are necessary when accessing a partitioned table using SQL queries and DML statements. Partitioning Key ======================== Each row in a partitioned table is unambiguously assigned to a single partition. The partitioning key is comprised of one or more columns that determine the partition where each row will be stored. Oracle automatically directs insert, update, and delete operations to the appropriate partition through the use of the partitioning key. When to Partition a Table ========================== Here are some suggestions for when to partition a table: Tables greater than 2 GB should always be considered as candidates for partitioning. Tables containing historical data, in which new data is added into the newest partition. A typical example is a historical table where only the current month's data is updatable and the other 11 months are read only. When the contents of a table need to be distributed across different types of storage devices. When to Partition an Index ============================= Here are some suggestions for when to consider partitioning an index: Avoid rebuilding the entire index when data is removed. Perform maintenance on parts of the data without invalidating the entire index. Reduce the impact of index skew caused by an index on a column with a monotonically increasing value. Partitioned Index-Organized Tables =================================== Partitioned index-organized tables are very useful for providing improved performance, manageability, and availability for index-organized tables. For partitioning an index-organized table: ============================================ Partition columns must be a subset of the primary key columns Secondary indexes can be partitioned (both locally and globally) OVERFLOW data segments are always equi-partitioned with the table partitions See Also: Oracle Database Concepts for more information about index-organized tables System Partitioning System partitioning enables application-controlled partitioning without having the database controlling the data placement. The database simply provides the ability to break down a table into partitions without knowing what the individual partitions are going to be used for. All aspects of partitioning have to be controlled by the application. For example, an insertion into a system partitioned table without the explicit specification of a partition will fail. System partitioning provides the well-known benefits of partitioning (scalability, availability, and manageability), but the partitioning and actual data placement are controlled by the application. See Also: Oracle Database Data Cartridge Developer's Guide for more information about system partitioning Partitioning for Information Lifecycle Management Information Lifecycle Management (ILM) is concerned with managing data during its lifetime. Partitioning plays a key role in ILM because it enables groups of data (that is, partitions) to be distributed across different types of storage devices and managed individually.

How to import java project in netbeans and dump file into oracle database

05:36
FB: https://www.facebook.com/gigtrix Susbcribe Now: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCppU-sahcmeeJdUOeYMCt3A This tutorial will show you "how you can run a java project in netbeans and import a dump file (containing tables) into the oracle database to run the project." If you just import a project directly into netbeans and if it is connected with database such as mysql, oracle etc then you need to have all the tables listed in the project into the database, you can do that by simply creating all the tables but that would consume time. But if you have a dump file you can simply just import the all the tables alongwith their data-entries into your database. ________________________________________ If You Found This Video Interesting or Helpful, Don't Forget to Share it with Your Friends ________________________________________ Please Like and Subscribe, More video coming soon

Subqueries in sql Part 59

14:34
In this video we will discuss about subqueries in sql server. Let us understand subqueris with an example. Please create the required tables and insert sample data using the script below. Create Table tblProducts ( [Id] int identity primary key, [Name] nvarchar(50), [Description] nvarchar(250) ) Create Table tblProductSales ( Id int primary key identity, ProductId int foreign key references tblProducts(Id), UnitPrice int, QuantitySold int ) Insert into tblProducts values ('TV', '52 inch black color LCD TV') Insert into tblProducts values ('Laptop', 'Very thin black color acer laptop') Insert into tblProducts values ('Desktop', 'HP high performance desktop') Insert into tblProductSales values(3, 450, 5) Insert into tblProductSales values(2, 250, 7) Insert into tblProductSales values(3, 450, 4) Insert into tblProductSales values(3, 450, 9) Write a query to retrieve products that are not at all sold? This can be very easily achieved using subquery as shown below. Select [Id], [Name], [Description] from tblProducts where Id not in (Select Distinct ProductId from tblProductSales) Most of the times subqueries can be very easily replaced with joins. The above query is rewritten using joins and produces the same results. Select tblProducts.[Id], [Name], [Description] from tblProducts left join tblProductSales on tblProducts.Id = tblProductSales.ProductId where tblProductSales.ProductId IS NULL In this example, we have seen how to use a subquery in the where clause. Let us now discuss about using a sub query in the SELECT clause. Write a query to retrieve the NAME and TOTALQUANTITY sold, using a subquery. Select [Name], (Select SUM(QuantitySold) from tblProductSales where ProductId = tblProducts.Id) as TotalQuantity from tblProducts order by Name Query with an equivalent join that produces the same result. Select [Name], SUM(QuantitySold) as TotalQuantity from tblProducts left join tblProductSales on tblProducts.Id = tblProductSales.ProductId group by [Name] order by Name From these examples, it should be very clear that, a subquery is simply a select statement, that returns a single value and can be nested inside a SELECT, UPDATE, INSERT, or DELETE statement. It is also possible to nest a subquery inside another subquery. According to MSDN, subqueries can be nested upto 32 levels. Subqueries are always encolsed in paranthesis and are also called as inner queries, and the query containing the subquery is called as outer query. The columns from a table that is present only inside a subquery, cannot be used in the SELECT list of the outer query. Next Video: What to choose for performance? LAST VALUE function in SQL Server

05:35
last_value function in sql server 2008 sql server last_value function returns incorrect data sql server last_value function example sql server last_value function with partition example LAST_VALUE function in SQL Server In this video we will discuss LAST_VALUE function in SQL Server. LAST_VALUE function Introduced in SQL Server 2012 Retrieves the last value from the specified column ORDER BY clause is required PARTITION BY clause is optional ROWS or RANGE clause is optional, but for it to work correctly you may have to explicitly specify a value Syntax : LAST_VALUE(Column_Name) OVER (ORDER BY Col1, Col2, ...) LAST_VALUE function not working as expected : In the following example, LAST_VALUE function does not return the name of the highest paid employee. This is because we have not specified an explicit value for ROWS or RANGE clause. As a result it is using it's default value RANGE BETWEEN UNBOUNDED PRECEDING AND CURRENT ROW. SELECT Name, Gender, Salary, LAST_VALUE(Name) OVER (ORDER BY Salary) AS LastValue FROM Employees LAST_VALUE function working as expected : In the following example, LAST_VALUE function returns the name of the highest paid employee as expected. Notice we have set an explicit value for ROWS or RANGE clause to ROWS BETWEEN UNBOUNDED PRECEDING AND UNBOUNDED FOLLOWING This tells the LAST_VALUE function that it's window starts at the first row and ends at the last row in the result set. SELECT Name, Gender, Salary, LAST_VALUE(Name) OVER (ORDER BY Salary ROWS BETWEEN UNBOUNDED PRECEDING AND UNBOUNDED FOLLOWING) AS LastValue FROM Employees LAST_VALUE function example with partitions : In the following example, LAST_VALUE function returns the name of the highest paid employee from the respective partition. SELECT Name, Gender, Salary, LAST_VALUE(Name) OVER (PARTITION BY Gender ORDER BY Salary ROWS BETWEEN UNBOUNDED PRECEDING AND UNBOUNDED FOLLOWING) AS LastValue FROM Employees Text version of the video http://csharp-video-tutorials.blogspot.com/2015/10/lastvalue-function-in-sql-server.html Slides http://csharp-video-tutorials.blogspot.com/2015/10/lastvalue-function-in-sql-server_9.html All SQL Server Text Articles http://csharp-video-tutorials.blogspot.com/p/free-sql-server-video-tutorials-for.html All SQL Server Slides http://csharp-video-tutorials.blogspot.com/p/sql-server.html Full SQL Server Course https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL4cyC4G0M1RQ_Rm52cQ4CcOJ_T_HXeMB4 All Dot Net and SQL Server Tutorials in English https://www.youtube.com/user/kudvenkat/playlists?view=1&sort=dd All Dot Net and SQL Server Tutorials in Arabic https://www.youtube.com/c/KudvenkatArabic/playlists

Transforming AutoCAD text and line data into Oracle Spatial data

06:23
In this demo, we have an AutoCAD dataset containing lines and text representing water information. You'll see how to use FME to map the schema between these two formats and preserve the important information contained in the original dataset. Oracle, like SQL Server and PostGIS, doesn't process the text data - it converts it to a point feature. You'll see how FME can extract important information (ex. rotation, height) from the original text feature and store it in Oracle. An existing schema can also be loaded by choosing the "Import Feature Types" option. In addition, you'll see how to create a published parameter that helps you avoid repetitive typing of passwords when reading and writing database formats.

How to create SQL Backup and Schedule Backup || SQL Server 2012

15:52
SQL Server 2012 How to create SQL Manual Backup Auto schedule Backup & Restore the Backup? #SQLbackup #SQLScheduleBackup #SQLBackupRestore Update July 2018 SQL (Structured Query Language) is a standardized programming language used for managing relational databases and performing various operations on the data in them. Initially created in the 1970s, SQL is regularly used by database administrators, as well as by developers writing data integration scripts and data analysts looking to set up and run analytical queries. The uses of SQL include modifying database table and index structures; adding, updating and deleting rows of data; and retrieving subsets of information from within a database for transaction processing and analytics applications. Queries and other SQL operations take the form of commands written as statements-- commonly used SQL statements include select, add, insert, update, delete, create, alter and truncate. SQL became the de facto standard programming language for relational databases after they emerged in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Also known as SQL databases, relational systems comprise a set of tables containing data in rows and columns. Each column in a table corresponds to a category of data -- for example, customer name or address -- while each row contains a data value for the intersecting column. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ How to create sql manual backup? SQL stands for Structured Query Language SQL lets you access and manipulate databases SQL became a standard of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) in 1986, and of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) in 1987 What Can SQL do? SQL can execute queries against a database SQL can retrieve data from a database SQL can insert records in a database SQL can update records in a database SQL can delete records from a database SQL can create new databases SQL can create new tables in a database SQL can create stored procedures in a database SQL can create views in a database SQL can set permissions on tables, procedures, and views SQL is a Standard - BUT.... Although SQL is an ANSI/ISO standard, there are different versions of the SQL language. However, to be compliant with the ANSI standard, they all support at least the major commands (such as SELECT, UPDATE, DELETE, INSERT, WHERE) in a similar manner. Note: Most of the SQL database programs also have their own proprietary extensions in addition to the SQL standard! Using SQL in Your Web Site To build a web site that shows data from a database, you will need: An RDBMS database program (i.e. MS Access, SQL Server, MySQL) To use a server-side scripting language, like PHP or ASP To use SQL to get the data you want To use HTML / CSS to style the page RDBMS RDBMS stands for Relational Database Management System. RDBMS is the basis for SQL, and for all modern database systems such as MS SQL Server, IBM DB2, Oracle, MySQL, and Microsoft Access. The data in RDBMS is stored in database objects called tables. A table is a collection of related data entries and it consists of columns and rows. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- SQL, SQL 2008 R2, SQL 2012, SQL Express, DBMS, DATA BASE, MySQL, SQL Server, ANSI, Oracle, RDBMS, SELECT, UPDATE, DELETE, INSERT, WHERE, Backup, Restore backup, Auto backup, schedule backup ========================================= Follow us :- ========== Youtube : https://www.youtube.com/c/techomega Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/Tech0mega G+ : https://plus.google.com/u/0/b/112488171096197296099/ =====================================================
