Japanese Street Fashion - Raw, Harajuku

07:40
Meet Raw, a standout Japanese student at Tokyo's famous Bunka Fashion College. After playing sports in high school, Raw had a life-changing experience while experimenting with fashion. "Our Streets, My Style" is our original show taking you up close and personal with Japanese street style personalities. Meet the amazing people featured in the daily street snaps Tokyo Fashion has been publishing for over a decade. Raw on Instagram & Twitter https://www.instagram.com/lifecoming1/ https://twitter.com/coming1101 We first met Raw (Kota) on the streets of Harajuku back in 2017. We got to know him while he attended his first year at the most famous fashion school in Asia, Japan's Bunka Fashion College. Often wearing his own handmade (or at least hand modified) creations, he immediately struck us as someone who was more serious about fashion than the average Harajuku kid. During the summer of 2017, Raw scored an internship at the world famous Dog Harajuku boutique (known for their relationship with Lady Gaga as well as numerous other international celebrities and stylists) - establishing himself as one of the new faces worth watching in the Japanese street fashion scene. Now a second year student at Bunka Fashion College, Raw continues to focus on making his own outfits as well as expanding his skills in fashion styling and fashion promotion. He also spends time thinking about how modern social media impacts what fashion people wear, and how people present themselves on social media. Enjoy Raw's interview, and please leave comments if you have any thoughts or questions on what he has to say, on Bunka Fashion College, or on Harajuku. Japanese designer Jotaro Saito mixes modern with tradition for new show

02:57
(25 Mar 2009) SHOTLIST Music on catwalks not cleared for use. replace with your own clearable music AP Entertainment Tokyo, Japan, 25 March 2009 1. Various shots of Jotaro Saito's new kimono fashion collection 2. Cutaway audience 2. Close up of the obi, kimono's belt, zooming out to a male model wearing a denim kimono 4. Wide shot of presser 5. SOUNDBITE (Japanese) Jotaro Saito, designer of the brand "Jotaro Saito": "I design products other than kimonos too. By working on other products, I feel the urge to dig deeper in the world of kimono. I want to live up to the expectations of my fans by creating more fun kimonos." 6. Various shots of the show's finale with the designer and all the models on catwalk STORYLINE KIMONO MAKEOVER Japanese designer Jotaro Saito held a promising show on day three of the Japan Fashion Week Autumn/Winter Collection 2009 held in Tokyo. Jotaro's new collection is an integration of the Japanese tradition of "harmony" and the chic modern style, using just kimonos, the Japanese ethnic costume. Models were dressed up in sophisticated kimonos under the theme of "marbling," which portrays the aspect of marbling together the contemporary and classical images into his new collection. Kimonos beauty is classified by its textile, the print or embroidery on the long sleeves, the wide belt, and the ribbon in the back. The uniqueness found in Jotaro's collection was bringing charcoal coloured inner wear and metallic "tabi" socks with striped clogs. The traditional look would be white inner wear and socks with simple clogs. Modern was integrated with the classic in the textile as well. Jotaro joined the denim and kimono wear as a contemporary look for men, but maintains the dressy atmosphere. The denim series will be on sale from June through the website. Jotaro is a renowned kimono designer and praised for his proposal on blending the tradition and modern. He also works as an interior designer making furniture in collaborations with many Japanese and oversees manufacturers. Japanese spirit of harmony, or also known as "wa" is Jotaro's concept and a way of communicating the past and transforming the style so it adapts to the present people. Japan is a country where it is still common to find people wearing kimonos at parties and special events, but Jotaro wants to make kimonos more enjoyable to wear for a broader range of people. The kimono was been transformed in textile, design and colours but did not lose the original beauty of the tradition. The designer's intention is not to copy the tradition, but to evolve it into a new urban look. Japan Fashion Week in Tokyo is held for the 8th time this year, with its aim to attract both Japanese and foreign media and buyers. Tokyo has always been at the center of the fashion business in Asia and the show helps to communicate further the creativity and craftsmanship of the young designers ready for an international debut. Over 40 brands will be showing their autumn winter collection of 2009 at the Tokyo Fashion Week. The 8th Japan Fashion Week in Tokyo goes on until this Sunday, March 29th. Here's What Gangs From All Over the World Look Like

08:09
Very few think about it, but almost every country has its low-class gangsters. And each of them has their own specific subculture and style. TIMESTAMPS France – Racaille (rah-KYE) 0:29 USA – White trash 1:09 England – Chavs 1:53 Japan – Yankii 2:36 India – Tapori 3:17 Spain – Cani 4:02 Scotland – Ned 4:43 Israel – Ars 5:23 South Africa – Zef 6:06 Russia – Gopnik 6:46 SUMMARY - Racaille as true Frenchmen possesses a flawless style. They prefer Lacoste, wear Lacoste belt bags, and think that the height of style is pants tucked into socks. - In America, poor white people are often shortly called ”white-trash.” This term goes back to the 1820s and allegedly was invented by African Americans to disparage local poor white people. - The term “chav” came from a Romani word “chavvi,” which means “a child.” Chavs live in poor suburban districts. London traffic is too heavy for them. - Yankii are working-class Japanese youngsters. They are not tough guys like the yakuza, of course. But they are famous for being loud, rude, and refusing to take part in the strict manners of Japanese culture. - Tapori are street thugs from Mumbai. Their motto is "Milking a dummy is saint." That's why their main activity is hustling tourists. - Cani is very easy to spot a Southern-Spanish thug: they look as if they’ve just robbed a pawnshop, wearing multiple rings, gold chains, and other accessories. They like to listen to loud music on public transport, always playing club music out loud. - “Ned” is actually a short version for “non-educated delinquent.” Neds live in the poorer areas of Scottish suburbs. Unlike their English counterparts, these gentlemen are very aggressive, and they can drink huge amounts of alcohol with very little effect. - Arsim is a unique phenomenon in thug subculture because they are mostly religious. They often prefer national headwear to the standard baseball cap. - In the past, Zefs were wealthy but uneducated snobs who drove Ford Zephyrs. Then they degraded, but they still try to demonstrate style and wealth. - A Russian gopnik is a small predator of the criminal world. Gopniks also usually come from the dysfunctional background. They often spend their time squatting in groups and drinking beer. Do you know any other interesting facts about low-class gangs in your country? Tell us in the comment section below. What Harajuku Girls Really Look Like | Style Out There | Refinery29

07:50
From Gothic Lolitas to Yoyogi Rockabillies, the Tokyo neighborhood of Harajuku is a wellspring of some of the world's most unique and extreme fashion trends. Rife with restaurants, shops, and cafes, it's a hangout 'hood for the city's youth, whose style is confined to uniforms from elementary school through to high school graduation. And, perhaps to rebel from such strict sameness, they spend their weekends seeing how far they can push the limits. One of the oldest and most pervasive Harajuku style groups is Decora, characterized by a pursuit of kawaii, or "cuteness," which is expressed in massive piles of hair clips, face bandaids, creative layering, and a mishmash of colors and textures. Don't let "cute" confuse you: There's nothing delicate or elegant about Decora. It's bright, it's loud, and it's in your face (or rather, on your face, via a Hello Kitty bandaid). Though the style can appear as frivolous as a Halloween costume, there's a real statement behind the bevy of barrettes. In the face of pervasive group-mindedness, a rigid social order, and cultural reticence, the Decora have figured out a way to break free. In the first episode of our new documentary series, Style Out There, our host Asha Leo travels to Harajuku to meet with street fashion superstars, like 90884 designer Kurebayashi, Junnyan, and Shoichi Aoki, the founder of FRUiTS magazine, to peel back the rainbow-colored stickers and uncover the depth behind Decora. 15 Amazing Kimono Inspired Japanese Street Fashion Looks

03:45
Traditional Japanese kimono gets remixed with kawaii, cyber, goth, and other subcultures on the streets of Tokyo. Kimono - which Japanese people have been wearing for over one thousand years - are Japan's most iconic fashion item. Japanese people still wear kimono on special occasions and holidays, but traditional kimono (except for summer yukata) are worn less now than they were several generations ago. In Japan today, other types of fashion may have replaced kimono as daily wear, but creative young Japanese people are finding ways to incorporate elements of the kimono into modern street styles. From gothic kimono to cyber/rave style, to kimono mixed with super kawaii accessories, to the adoption of the kimono by many in Japan's shironuri (white makeup) subculture, kimono remains a strong influence in the modern Japanese fashion scene. We love kimono and we wanted to share fifteen of the amazing kimono-inspired styles that we have seen on the streets of Harajuku over the last few years. Please enjoy these looks and let us know what you think of young people taking elements of kimono and remixing it with their own unique styles. Japanese Street Fashion - Beni, Harajuku

06:40
Meet Beni, a Japanese high school student with a love of dance and art. On the streets of Harajuku, Beni discovered that fashion helped her to express herself, make new friends, and grow as a person. "Our Streets, My Style" is our original show taking you up close and personal with Japanese street style personalities. Meet the amazing people featured in the daily street snaps Tokyo Fashion has been publishing for over a decade. Beni on Instagram & Twitter https://www.instagram.com/beni9s/ https://twitter.com/beniemily9s We first met Beni on the streets of Harajuku in the spring of 2017. She was a Japanese high school student who dressed mostly in trendy styles sold by popular boutiques in the famous Tokyo neighborhood. As we got to know more about her, we learned that Beni was an aspiring artist, and that she had also been involved in dance (both ballet and modern dance) since she was very young. Having been interested in creative expression through art and dance since she was a child, we were not surprised to see Beni dive deeper into fashion as another medium to express herself. As she spent more time in Harajuku, Beni's personal style began to move away from trendy shops and toward independent designers, vintage shops, and experimental looks. Beni also began to make new friends on the streets of Harajuku - creative young people from all over Tokyo who shared her love of fashion and who have similar dreams and ambitions. When she first arrived in Harajuku, she didn't know anyone in the neighborhood. By the spring of 2018, Beni had built a large new family of friends, acquaintances, and creative collaborators - a group of kids who inspire and support each other in fashion and in life. Beni's story is similar to the story of many other Harajuku kids who visit Harajuku casually at first, and then discover a deeper love of fashion - and a new group of creative friends. We hope that you'll enjoy hearing about this evolution first hand from a real Harajuku girl. If you have questions for Beni, feel free to ask her by commenting on her personal Instagram. How to Wear a Kimono - Japanese Traditional Wear

06:04
Japan's traditional clothing - Kimono. Beautiful silk with amazing patterns. This kimono was made by our friend's mom around 30 years ago. The materials are exquisite, and the obi (decorated belt) is extremely expensive silk. I was very lucky to put it on and I think not too many foreigners have an opportunity like this. I was really grateful! Minimal, Modern Japanese Style Apartment - 'Simple Living'

02:05
How to create a beautiful, minimal, modern Japanese style home interior. A tour around an inspiring, tranquil, white, Paris apartment. For more inspiration look here: https://www.studiohazeldean.com/project/minimal-modern-japanese-apartment-paris In the heart of the bustling 11th arrondissement of Paris, a cobbled back street leads through heavy oak doors and up a winding wooden staircase to a dark, dust filled apartment, uninhabited for nine years. Studio Hazeldean transformed this into a calming oasis, a city retreat with a meditative feel, inspired by timeless Japanese aesthetics. Shibui (simple, subtle, unobtrusive beauty) and Seijaku (tranquility). Working within the challenging irregular space of just 38m2, Studio Hazeldean reconfigured the layout to accommodate a master bedroom with walk-in wardrobe, an open-plan L-shaped kitchen, a living room with dining area, a home office and a bathroom with walk-in shower. A restrained palette of materials allowed each room to be distinctive whilst ensuring flow and unity through the space. Plywood, grey washed oak, white plaster, black steel and grey wool. The overall effect is a calming, minimal, sanctuary in the heart of the busy city. We're a small Interior Design Studio based in Hoxton, London. Fresh, funky and futuristic; Alpha Grid travelled to Japan to show Japanese haute couture as never before. Tokyo-based fashionista Misha Janette introduces us to two very different houses whose clothes are flying off the racks. Mame draws inspiration from the natural world, using age-old artisan tailoring methods to give a modern twist on traditional clothing. Anrealage takes wearable technology to the next level, with clothes that both change colour in the presence of flash photography, and pulse with voices and sound when ‘read’ by a smartphone or tablet.

Japanese Summer Yukata Shopping in Harajuku at Tsukikageya

04:31
Elleanor hunts for the perfect summer yukata from Tsukikageya - a designer that mixes Japanese tradition with modern street style. "Elleanor's Tokyo" is a weekly video blog by Elleanor - a 19-year-old English-speaking Japanese girl who spends most of her life in Harajuku. It's summer time in Tokyo and that means that everyone needs a yukata - the perfect Japanese fashion for hanabi (fireworks festivals). Elleanor has been dreaming of buying a yukata from the famous Tokyo brand Tsukikageya since she was in high school. This summer, her dreams will finally come true - and she brought along a camera or two so that she can share the experience with you. Tsukikageya is the brainchild of Japanese kimono/yukata maker Natsuki Shigeta. The brand makes extremely high quality yukata in the Japanese tradition. The twist is that their patterns are modern - from kawaii to punk rock and beyond. For many summers, Tsukikageya has had a popup shop at the entrance to the LaForet Harajuku department store. Elleanor visited the Tsukikageya popup shop and searched for her perfect yukata - and obi. For more information on Tsukikageya, and to see many of their amazing yukata designs from recent years, check their official website: http://www.tsukikageya.com And their online shop: http://home.a07.itscom.net/kageya2/ We want to thank Natsuki Shigeta and everyone at Tsukikageya for allowing us to film their beautiful yukata. If you're ever in Japan during the summer, check out their popup shop (if you're not, visit the website). Elleanor posts real time updates - and answers questions - on her personal Instagram & Twitter: http://instagram.com/elleanor1222 https://twitter.com/elleanor_defob http://elleanor1222.tumblr.com/ Please leave suggestions and comments for Elleanor in the YouTube comments. About Elleanor: Elleanor works at two clothing shops in Harajuku, as well as having previously worked at a cafe inside of LaForet Harajuku. She's also been street snapped by FRUiTS (and other magazines), as well as having created handmade accessories for a Harajuku boutique. Please subscribe to the TokyoFashion YouTube Channel so that you don't miss any of Elleanor's future video blogs: http://www.youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user=tokyofashionnews Here are the licensed songs used in this video: 50's Housewife by Garry O'Neal https://soundcloud.com/garry-oneal/fifties-housewife Sensei by Sean Wichert, Sr.

I Got Transformed Into a Japanese Lolita Girl | Harajuku, Japan

07:42
Experience the Japanese street fashion Lolita in Tokyo, Japan. Thank you to this Harajuku studio for the Lolita girl transformation: http://www.maison-de-julietta.com/. Be sure to click subscribe & turn on the notifications! Lolita fashion is a fashion subculture from Japan emerged during the 1990s as a radical form of street style. It is both kawaii, Victorian, and diverse in its presentation. Harajuku girls began taking the streets of Tokyo and their fashion can now be found all around the world! The outfit I'm dressed in today is part of Sweet Lolita style, with its dolls, cuddly toys that is in reference to Victorian children's literature - very similar to an Alice in Wonderland look! But there is also Gothic Lolita or Punk Lolita style. I never thought I'd get to experience this side of Japanese culture and I'm glad to have let my inner Lolita twirl! Modern Japanese Style Wedding | Wedding Trip 2017 | KUROSHI from MALAYSIA

09:44
Welcome back guys! And a big congratz to my cousin on her wedding!! :) On this gorgeous day, I'm going to attend my cousin's marriage with her husband. Early in the morning, we took off to Namba station. It took us longer than expected to walk from the station to the hotel beside it. The station was rather complex than we thought. Luckily, we still made it in time. The wedding was held at Hotel Monterey Grasmere. I hope that you would like the clip I made about the ceremony. It is dedicated to my cousin. :) After that, we had a luxurious full course french cuisine. I don't think that I'll ever be able to have something that luxurious ever in my life. The food was amazing!! We also got a lot of gifts from my cousin. Thank you very much~ :) That evening, we also join them (their japanese friends) for the After Party. It's a very good experience talking with japanese people and exchanging our culture. I also made some new japanese friends :) I do hope that we could have gatherings like this some other time again. That's it for this awesome and memorable day. Hope you guys like it and subscribe for more videos. :) **Links** Hotel Monterey Grasmere Osaka - http://www.hotelmonterey.co.jp/en/htl/grasmere_osaka/ **Gears** iPhone SE XiaoMi Yi Actio Camera **Music** Here with You - Tatsuya Kato Spring in my Step - Slient Partner Infectious - Tobu

Japanese Street Style - Shouta, Harajuku

08:24
Meet Shouta, a 26-year-old Japanese aspiring musician, model, and actor who is active in the Harajuku street fashion scene. Shouta, who had a complex about his appearance, has tried to turn that negative into a positive through the power of fashion and music. "Our Streets, My Style" is our original show taking you up close and personal with Japanese street style personalities. Meet the amazing people featured in the daily street snaps Tokyo Fashion has been publishing for over a decade. Shouta on Instagram and Twitter: https://instagram.com/tananasho/ https://twitter.com/tananasho We first met Shouta on the streets of Tokyo's Harajuku neighborhood several years ago. The aspiring musician (he plays guitar and drums as well as singing) immediately stood out because of his bald head and minimalist oversized fashion. His passion for music - which has long been his dream - was obvious, even in our first conversations. Shouta first began visiting Harajuku after moving to Tokyo from Nagano. He told us that he used to have a complex about his appearance. After starting a band and getting more involved in fashion, he began to see the negative things that he had been focusing on as potential positives that made him unique. Over the last few years, in addition to his band, Shouta has been doing more modeling for fashion brands. His style is very "Japanese" and he wears fashion by designers - Yohji Yamamoto is his favorite - that incorporate traditional Japanese elements into their modern stylings. In addition to modeling, he has also started to do some acting in short films, something that he hopes to explore more in the future. Shouta has built a large circle of fashion-loving friends on the streets of Harajuku, which he told us helps to keep him positive when dark thoughts start to creep in. And when he can't suppress them, he tries to focus any negativity into song writing for his band. Even though he told us that he has a "gloomy" side, Shouta is someone who we always enjoy meeting on the street, and we hope that you'll enjoy his interview as well! Follow Shouta on Instagram to see more of his life, music, and modeling. You can also ask him questions directly via her social media accounts. Please leave comments in the YouTube comments if you have suggestions for future episodes of this show. Thank you for watching and for supporting Japanese street fashion. 15 Examples of Japanese Etiquette That Will Drive You Crazy

12:37
We've put together some mind-blowing rules of courtesy from Japan. Breaking them would seriously offend your Japanese friends or colleagues. Have you ever dreamt of visiting Japan? Seriously, who hasn’t? It is famous for its high-speed trains, colorful cherry blossom and kimonos, yummy sushi and incredible etiquette rules. Apparently, there is a ceremony and a set of rules for even the most routine things in the Land of the Rising Sun. TIMESTAMPS Addressing people 0:46 Exchanging business cards 2:06 Giving praise 2:56 Punctuality 3:45 In an elevator 4:30 Subways 5:09 Touching 5:38 Keeping it clean 6:04 Eating outside 6:51 Alcoholic drinks 7:57 Money 8:34 The art of sitting properly 9:09 Gifts 9:40 Bowing 10:42 Taking leave 11:33 SUMMARY - To address people by name is not enough in Japan. Our usual Miss and Mister last name won’t work either. And even the respectful title “-san“ is only the tip of the iceberg. There are actually more appropriate suffixes for addressing or referring to different people. - Exchanging business cards is a whole ritual. Make sure your card’s front side is facing your counterpart. Offer it with both hands. If your rank is lower than your partner’s, hold the card lower than they do. - The Japanese believe that "You can easily break a single arrow, but not ten in a bundle." In other words, group solidarity is much more important than individual success to them. - Timekeeping means so much to the Japanese they are surrounded by clocks. Every park, store and even many of the billboards have clocks in them. When a train is one minute late, the railway company will make an announcement with their sincere apologies. - If you are a tourist in Japan, try not to be the first to enter an elevator! Unless you really want to be the captain. The position is not paid though, and you don’t get a cool captain’s hat. - On the subway, there are some restrictive rules that the Japanese are expected to follow: talking is not allowed (on the phone as well), and it’s impolite to stare at others. - In Japan, it’s rude to look people in the eyes, let alone touch them. This country is not very large, so every Japanese person respects the personal space of others. - If you visit a Japanese home, prepare to take your shoes off before you enter. You will get slippers instead. - One thing to remember here is that you can’t bring your own food or drinks to the stall (which makes sense) and you can’t occupy your table for too long as there are other people waiting. - The Japanese have a strange attitude toward money: for some reason, they are embarrassed to show it in public. Therefore, money envelopes decorated in a traditional manner are very popular here. - If you are a tourist or a senior and spread out your legs, you’ll certainly get away with it, and no one will say anything.
