About EMS Systems There have been a ton EMS systems (Electric Muscle Stimulator) ranging from therapy to rehab situations. An electrode is connected to the muscle to give it juice and cause it to contract. Over the years, the systems got in trouble with the FDA: the products didn't stimulate a *hot turd* and were being sold as a weight loss, side reducing wonder product. The Flex Belt got FDA clearance for ab toning, firming, and strengthening. How it works Essentially, you have an adjustable belt, electrodes, replaceable pads, and a battery pack. After putting it on, set the program (1 -10) and increase the intensity levels (1 -150). Alpha started feeling it on program 5 / intensity 30. He starts getting ballsy from there-- he cranks it up. Contractions last 2 seconds with relaxation for 5 seconds for 30 minutes. He used it for 1 week and has been really sore (mainly his obliques). Does the belt work? To get to see your abs, however, you need a healthy diet with cardio to get rid of your layer of fat.It's not a shortcut; it's something to add. First, you must be in a hypocaloric state if you are currently overweight and in need of losing weight to reveal your abs. Nutrition is and always will be the key to getting abs. Second, you need to be sure you remain in positive nitrogen balance (particularly as you decrease your calories a bit). This is needed to make sure you can still provide enough substrate necessary to support the lean muscle you have and help to build new muscle. Protein supplements can come in incredibly handy in this process if the ones you are choosing are free of fillers, empty calories and garbage. They provide you with the protein you need without the excess calories that come from foods associated as high protein but also high fat or carb dense. Now that said, solid food nutrition absolutely must make up the major constituent of your eating plan if you want to build muscle. In order to have your abs to show, you need to reduce your body fat (have a decent diet that facilitates your body fat reduction) and perform cardio the 1st thing in the morning. Now that you have the body fat reduced, you need to develop the abs and create separations. Here's how... Alpha's Go To Ab Routine Basic bench crunch - after getting into position, keep legs slightly bent, come up and pause. Alpha gives alternates for less and more intense options. 15 reps with dumbbell then 15 reps without the weight. Do three (3) sets of 30 reps. Hanging Leg Raises - Alpha gives options to perform this exercise with pros and cons. It's about control, that little squeeze, and that little pause. He gives options to make the exercises less and more challenging. He also gives an option to hit the obliques. Go for three (3) sets. Cable Crunch - it's a personal favorite of Alpha but is more difficult to feel. Your butt doesn't move. Only the upper body moves with a pause. Go for 15 - 20, three (3) sets. The Ball Crunch - not the most masculine looking but one of the most effective. Chin to ceiling with the ball in the small of your back, go up, pause, and down. If you quiver, all of your muscles are engaged. You don't need to go super fast. Go 10 slow with a pause. Then go for 10 pulses. It's a great way to finish off those abs! String of two of these together for a superset. Alternate back and forth for 3 sets. Perform twice a week with a few days in between. If you squeeze, go slow, and contract, you'll feel it for days. In this video, I’m going to show you the fastest way to get your lower abs to pop and the 4 steps you need to take to make sure you don’t get hung up along the way. The first key to a six pack is to make sure that your nutrition is not just decent but great. There is no way to get your lower abs to show year round if you cannot commit to anything more than just a decent diet. Men tend to store the majority of their body fat in their lower bellies. It is often the last to come off when losing body fat and dieting down. This means that unless you are locked in on a consistent, high quality nutrition plan you likely won’t see this area get lean enough to really see your lower abs. Now, the method you choose to get down in the body fat range where seeing the lower abs is possible is up to you. Some will swear by 6 meals a day, others by intermittent fasting, others by keto, etc. Honestly, I don’t care which it is that you follow but you better make sure that whatever you choose it is something that allows you to be consistent with it for the long term. Too many diet plans for 6 pack abs wind up being temporary. You lose weight and body fat enough so that you can see the lower abs for a short period of time but wind up putting it all back on because the diet is not something you can stick with. Don’t let that happen to you. Find something that you can enjoy and you will have found your lower abs for life. Next, we have to address the common mistakes made in how we perform our ab exercises. While the rectus abdominus is a single muscle that contracts all or none, you cannot simply perform top down ab exercises like crunches and expect to get the same level of development as if you performed lower ab exercises. Lower ab exercises are those that move from the bottom up. The key to these exercises is that the added weight of the legs that needs to be overcome on each rep is enough to provide an overload and a stimulation of the type II fibers of the abdominals. When these are activated and trained, the abs will hypertrophy a bit and stand out more making them more visible when body fat levels are low. This leads to the next big ab training mistake however. You have to make sure that you don’t confuse simply moving your legs with effective targeting of the lower abs. In order to train the lower ab muscles the right way you need to focus on moving the pelvis rather than the legs. When the pelvis moves, the legs will come along for the ride naturally due to their connection at the hip joint. Regardless of whether you are doing hanging ab raises or lower ab exercises on the floor, the same key applies. Be sure to posteriorly rotate your pelvis in order to activate the lower abs and stop focusing on simply raising and lowering the legs which is more of a hip flexor dominant movement. Finally, you will want to expand your understanding of the core if you want to get your lower abs to show better. This means, looking to stabilize the pelvis from below by contracting the adductors on every rep of every exercise you can for your bottom most abs. This means just crossing your legs and squeezing them together at the knees on most hanging or seated ab exercises. So here is the blueprint to getting awesome abs. I mean after all if we can focus on the best exercises then we can get faster development of our six pack abs. Luckily ACE also known as the American Council on exercise conducted a study that tested out different ab movements & found which ones produced the best results. Ive been recommending certain ab exercises over others for a while now & its nice to see that every one of the exercises that they said work best are ones that I've been advocating for quite a while. This study was conducted several years ago but it's a fairly in-depth study comparing 13 different exercises. The researchers primarily looked at muscle stimulation & activity & ranked the exercises from best to worst. So let's jump right in with the top 6 best of the bests starting with number 6. The long arm crunch, this is one that I talk about all the time, & I highly recommend that you try it with a weight. The long arm crunch primarily focuses on working the rectus abdominus which is the muscle that most of us refer to as the six pack. You can do it without a weight but I recommend taking a moderately heavy weight load & pointing it straight to the ceiling. I recommend using a heavy weight because another 2009 study published in the journal of physical therapy in sport found that using weights for your abs can greatly increase stimulation of the rectus abdominus. Also using weights for your ab exercises allows you to progressively overload your abs just by upping the weight over time which is a necessary factor for any of your muscles to grow. So back to the long arm crunch you want to crunch up just enough to lift your shoulder blades up off the ground & then come back down while keeping your arms pointed straight towards the ceiling the whole time. It won't take much to feel the burn from this exercise, but this is an exercise that I usually recommend doing a dropset with. Meaning you would do ten to twenty reps of weighted long arm crunches & then immediately drop the weight & perform twenty more reps with only your body weight & your hands stacked on top of eachother. If your wondering about the exact number of sets to do this exercise & the other exercises that Im about to talk about stayed tuned because at the end i'll give you an excellent ab workout that includes these top 6 movements. But moving on next up on the list ranking as the 5th best exercise for six pack abs we have the ab roll out & the torso track. These are both pretty much the same exercise except one is done with an ab wheel while the other one is done on a slipper track. This is one that you probably won't be doing with weights, but by training yourself to roll out further over time you can gradually put more stress on your abs allowing you to progressively overload your abs over time. To start this exercise get on all fours with your arms locked out the ab wheel directly under your chest. As a beginner do not roll out all the way because you can hurt your back. Once you get comfortable as a beginner sit your hips back to give you some leverage. Once your ready you can proceed to more advanced levels where you roll all the way out to the point where your body winds up being almost flat on the ground at the end of the movement. This is one of my favorite ab exercises & not a lot of reps are needed to break down a lot of muscle tissue & get stronger. Next we have the vertical leg crunch, but I usually refer to this exercise as the reverse crunch. Same exercise just different terminology. To perform this exercise start with legs straight up towards the ceiling & your hands either folded across your chest or preferably behind the head. Once again lift your shoulder blades up off the ground just enough and then lower back down. This is once again another exercise that I recommend progressing with weights as soon as possible. Once ready for a weight i recommend using a dumbbell & holding the dumbbell across your chest or putting the dumbbell behind your head to make it more intense. But the first thing you must do when trying to get your abs lean is lower your overall body fat. There is no such thing as spot reduction so if you're hoping for this workout to burn fat off your abs, it's not going to happen. But if your body fat is low already and you're trying to build muscle on your obliques to get that "V" cut appearance. Try out these exercises with 30 seconds rest between each one for as many rounds as you can. 1. Spiderman Plank Crunch - Roll your shoulders out to stabilize your body, keep your body in a straight line and drive one knee outward and up to your elbow while crunching at the midsection. To make this harder, you can implement a pushup with the crunch. 2. Rotating Leg Lift Extensions - Starting position is with your back on the ground and legs up towards the ceiling. Once here, you will bring your butt/lower back off the ground by extending your legs towards the ceiling.. But while you do this, make sure you are implementing the twist of your hips otherwise it will only target lower abs and not obliques. 3. Floor Wipers - Starting in the same position as the leg lift extensions except with your arms out to the side for shoulder stabilization. From there, you will lower your legs down to one side until your feet are about 2 inches off the ground and you will bring your legs back up to starting position. Make sure you are focusing on engaging your obliques here and not using your upper body to power your leg movement. 4. Bicycles - Lay on your back with your legs out straight, your hands behind your head and your elbows out to the side. From here you will bring one knee up and one elbow down to meet that knee. What you want to focus on here is the twisting and crunching of your ABS! Imagine as if you are trying to get your shoulder to touch your knee so that you're not cheating your way through the exercise. Here I will break down for you everything you need to know about getting a six pack fast and how to construct your ab workouts in order to waste no time in doing so. It starts with the anatomy of the abdominal muscles and realizing that a complete core is not just the abs. You need to hit a few other key muscles if you want to get your core to look the best it can. Before getting into the anatomy of the core muscles however you always need to first question the quality of your nutrition. There is nothing that is going to give you a six pack unless your body fat is low enough to show what you have worked for. Not even hours of cardio are likely helpful enough to getting you to a body fat goal low enough to reveal a shredded core. Your nutrition is and always will be paramount to getting a low body fat that is capable of showing visible abs in any light. That said, back to the muscles that make up the complete step by step ab picture. You want to focus not only on the obvious rectus abdominus muscle but also realize that there are two main ways to hit it. You can influence the lower abdominal fibers more with bottom up movements that initiate the movement of the spine with the pelvis being moved towards the head. Vice versa, you can hit the upper fibers a bit more effectively when the shoulders are moved towards the pelvis. Either way, exercise selection is going to matter here as well as the method in which you are performing the exercises and the equipment you use (or forget to) that will take you to another level in ab development. On that end, many people forget that the ab muscles have a contribution of type II muscle fibers as well. This means that they respond well to explosive training and can hypertrophy with the right weighted exercises. Many people shy away from these thinking that it is going to give them a bulky midsection but that is not the case. Instead, it is going to help you to get blockier abs that stand out more than those that never include this type of training. Performing your reps explosively like Steelers All Pro wide receiver Antonio Brown is doing in this video is another key to getting abs that stand at attention in any light. Next you need to be sure you are focusing on including exercises for your obliques and serratus. These muscles run on a diagonal angle which suggests their high importance in the rotational ab exercises that you should be doing. Many options for hitting these muscles are included in this video but just be sure you are doing some of them since you can’t overlook these when it comes to the overall picture of getting a ripped midsection. The transverse abdominus is also an area that you want to focus your efforts on if you want to keep a flat belly and good muscle control of your lower abs. It is easier to activate if you understand the concept of proper breathing with your ab exercises. You want to be sure that you are exhaling or breathing out but cinching your stomach muscles down (not pushing them out) if you want to develop these muscles properly without causing your ab muscles to protrude or bloat. All of these things are important when it comes to getting ripped abs, you just have to have a game plan for doing it. You’d be right. That said, getting abs still remains rather elusive to many and certainly being able to maintain them year round is even harder. Not any more. In this video, I show you a 5 step plan for how to get a 6 pack that you can use to start getting your abs to show fast. Despite the fact that many are aware of the importance of proper nutrition when it comes to getting abs, it is still a mighty struggle to get them. It usually comes down to the methods those people are using to try and get them in the first place. Crash diet plans and temporary deprivation based tactics are not going to cut it long term if you want to get and keep your abs. Anything that forces you to feel as if you’re missing out or be deprived of what you really want is only going to be a temporary solution at best. As soon as you get tired of not having what you want, you’ll quickly give in and lose your ability to keep your hard earned abs. That said, the 5 step formula for getting a 6 pack starts with cutting out the obvious crap foods from your diet. You should know pretty quickly what these are. It’s the cakes, sweets, alcohol, fatty salad dressings, etc that just scream problems the minute you eat them. You know what they are and that means you know they should be gone, so do it. There’s never been a better time than now to start making the changes that are going to dramatically help you in your pursuit of your abs. Next step is to start eating more often. Yep, despite what keyboard scientists who read a few articles on google scholar want you to believe, there are far more important reasons to be eating more frequently throughout the day than whether or not this is maximally anabolic. I cover these for you in the video. Next up, you’re going to want to take another pass through that diet of yours. On this second time through, you’re going to want to remove the less obvious items that aren’t helping you as best they can to get your 6 pack abs. For me, I lay out three perfect examples. I thought these foods were healthy but I was only partially right. How they were being prepared was making all the difference in me seeing my abs consistently…or not. Moving on, you now want to eat more of the good foods you swapped in. This helps you to maintain and continue to build new muscle. Too often, people who take out the offending foods will free up many calories in their diet. If you don’t replace them with good foods you’ll likely wind up not supporting your muscle growth and be skinny without enough muscle mass. Finally, where the etching in of those abs can happen, supplementation. Use high quality supplements to fine tune your efforts and really take your results to the next level.
