Stormy weather - sailboat in distress at sea
This is when the fun ends ;-( The boat in peril is the SY Anita and the video was taken from the Wilhelm Kaisen, a 44m ship operated by the German Marine Rescue. The Wilhelm Kaisen assisted the SY Anita in distress and safely brought her to a harbor in Heligoland, a small German archipelago in the North Sea, in October 1997.

Rescue at Sea - Mid-Atlantic Mayday
On December 21st, 2016 the Coombes family were forced to abandon Dove II, their sailboat and home, in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. This video is the account of their rescue from our perspective as the crew of Tilly Mint - the sailboat that answered the mayday. For those of you who follow along with our Monday Never adventures, this video is coming out of sequence. We think that it is important to tell this story in as close to real-time as possible to help garner support for this family. *UPDATE - Jan 24* Thanks to the incredible generosity of hundreds of people, the fundraising goal has been surpassed by a mile, so we're closing the campaign. The outpouring of support has been truly incredible. You all are a testament to the goodness of people. - Will ** Update - Jan 28 ** The Coombes family is still searching for their boat and have written a detailed account of the rescue from their perspective. They have also created a new GoFundMe page for those of you interested in learning more and further supporting their efforts: https://www.gofundme.com/wxjjvvk-keeping-the-dream-alive You can also find out more information by reading the family's blog account: https://westerlyadventures.wordpress.com/2016/12/31/atlantic-crossing-week-3/ -- Music: Epidemic Sound Camera Equipment: - PRIMARY: Sony a6000: http://amzn.to/2bPrpT2 - WIDE ANGLE: GoPro: http://amzn.to/29XJRpz

Australian Couple Living on a Sailboat & Traveling the World
In this video we meet Elayna & Riley, an Australian couple living on a sailboat. Their boat, the SV La Vagabonde, is a 43.4 foot Beneteau Cyclades that Riley bought in Italy. The couple have been living on the boat for over a year, and sailed it from the Mediterranean to the Caribbean, with a fairly smooth Atlantic crossing in between. Once they get their fill of the Caribbean they'll be sailing to Australia and possibly continuing on from there to do a complete circumnavigation of the globe. On board they have 2 flexible solar panels and a wind generator for power, and a water maker to turn salt water into fresh drinking water. The couple had very little sailing experience to start with but they learned the ropes quite quickly. We would be hesitant to do the same without taking some sailing courses but it seems to have worked out really well for these guys; and we love watching videos of their adventures. You can follow them on YouTube & via their blog: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCZdQjaSoLjIzFnWsDQOv4ww http://sailing-lavagabonde.com You can also see a tour of their sailboat here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TKm2FX9kKZ4 Thanks for watching! Dramatic rescue while I was sailing across the Atlantic Feb 2017
This is my own footage from the last voyage of the Clipper 60 Clyde Challenger from St Lucia to Scotland after being hit by a severe storm five days out from the Azores the boat was knocked down and dismasted with myself and 13 crew on board 40 hours at the mercy of the North Atlantic with only a handheld VHF for communications. After a failed rescue attempt by the merchant ship CPO Finland we were rescued by the Royal Navy's destroyer HMS Dragon which deployed a 24ft rib to transfer us off the boat. Due to the damaged sustained in the storm and attempted rescue the Clyde Challenger was unseaworthy and if left would be a danger to shipping so it was decided jointly by the boat owner and insurance company to scuttle her.

Upwind Sailing to Indonesia (Sailing Nandji) Ep 106
Bonita is back on Nandji, I have overstayed my visa... Must be time to sail! Of course something goes wrong... https://www.sailingnandji.com This week on Sailing Nandji, Bonita returns back to Dili, after a 3 week trip to Australia for medical and family reasons. Given the all clear from anything life threatening, she hurried back to Nandji and we set about getting everything in order ready to leave. We get a Social visa for Indonesia, Load up on food and water and chase down our new Lithium batteries from ReLion. After a little confusion with paperwork, of course nothing is easy, we finally get our batteries on board and set some sails south. Our destination, Kupang, in Indonesia. Not having the luxury of waiting for a weather window as I had overstayed my visa, we head to sea in a 200nm upwind sail. Arriving to Kupang, the Nandji tradition of something going wrong upon arrival continues... NANDJI"S NEW MOTOR We reached our target for getting Nandji a new engine! YEW! Thanks to everyone who helped us on this mission to upgrade Nandji and prepare her for next years adventures! Over 200 people contributed and we now have a new engine currently being shipped to Malaysia to await our arrival! https://www.paypal.me/SailingNandji We are a young couple with a dog, who with no sailing experience, bought a yacht, got it blue water cruising ready and set off sailing around the Pacific! We have been in Indonesia for a couple of months cruising and our now high tailing to Malaysia for boat work. We departed Australia 18 months ago and have since explored some amazing countries, met some amazing people and experienced cultures, dived pristine reefs, surfed solo in the middle of nowhere, spent weeks at sea, dealt with storms, big waves, strong winds and had the time of our life doing it! Ep 19. Living on a sailboat - Super yachts, Sea-Doo fun & Champagne sunsets (Sailing Susan Ann II)
We made it back to Ibiza! It’s funny how you can travel to so many places (about 3,500nm approx) and out of all the incredible places we have visited there’s just got to be a favourite…. And for us it has to be Ibiza, it has a special place in our hearts! We decided to spend a week here waiting to hear if Dave get’s a job before the winter sets in (it’s easy to travel to the North Sea from Spain) and what better place to get all our boat jobs done before starting our Atlantic adventure. We settle in a cracking little bay where hull cleaning couldn’t be less of a chore and it just so happens to be where our friends, Si and Jo live! In this episode we get taken out for a great day by Si and Jo on a super fast yacht called ‘Danger Mouse’ We have lots of champagne and laughs while playing around with the Sea-Doo at Formentera and get up close and personal with the Worlds largest sailing yacht ‘A’. We end the week on a perfect high as we have the day sailing to Es Vedra followed by sunset drinks and lots of bad dancing! Hope you enjoyed this video, please stay tuned for next week when we sail from Ibiza to Gibraltar. With just 15 Nm to go to our destination in Panama we see a naval ship on the horizon changing course and heading straight towards us. We are a Swedish couple who wanted a different kind of life. So we moved aboard our sailboat RAN, a custom built aluminium Beason 40, untied the lines in the middle of the Swedish winter and started to sail south along the coast of Europe. Alone With A Sailboat And The Sea [Ep 7]
This is a small crossing compared to an ocean crossing that takes weeks on end. Crossing from the French Coast to Sardinia with a sailboat only takes about 40 hours. However it was filled with beautiful moments, with dolphins and full moons, with sunsets and sunrises. Combined with some gorgeous music from a few of my musical heroes, I think it makes for a nice relaxing watch. Arved Fuchs and his team on their most recent expedition across the North Atlantic begins on the 80-year-old sailing ship "Dagmar Aaen", from Greenland's west coast, via Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, Ireland and Scotland to the North German coast. It is a journey full of unforgettable experiences: unspoilt nature, rugged coasts, remote islands and extraordinary people who live with and off of the sea. For more than 30 years, German Arved Fuchs has undertaken ships expeditions to the most remote regions of our planet. He is mostly attracted to ice. There, on the west coast of Greenland, the cutter Dagmar Aaen, spent seven long winter months. This is where the five part series begins, which will come to an end after 12.000 nautical miles (ca. 22.000 kilometres) and more than four months later in the native North Sea.

Kris Larsen spent 104 days at sea in his junk-rigged sailbaot blown off course without an engine or any electronics. Mr. Larsen used celestial navigation forsaking GPS, EPIRBS, and even a toilet on his minimalist sailboat as he sailed around the world. His wife, Nat Uhing, wrote in her blog that his boat lacked basic electrical gear and an engine. She wrote: "...since he built his steel Chinese-junk-rigged sailboat and started sailing around without the usual engine, GPS, EPIRB, digital charts, radio, solar panels, water-maker, or toilet." Mr. Larsen and his wife dispute that this was a sailboat rescue. He only asked for a tow into Maui because there was no wind. Sailing into Monster Storm, MY STORY | Ships Heavy Weather Insights - Sailing Aulani Aloha
Extreme storm - Omens Tell Tales with ships as monster storm explodes in early winter storm. West Coast shuts down with Columbia River Bar and California as Storms the freaks of nature show their power. Mature storms are the most powerful events on the planet. In one day unleashing the equivalent force of the world's nuclear arsenals. Given time these loose canons on the ocean's deck give quarter to no vessel. These sea battles never decide who's right only who's left. As sailors in little boats the size of life boats. We don't have the luxury of hiding 100' up in comfy enclosed watertight wheelhouses. Or lounges on 1,000' ships manned 24/7 on all decks. We are literally part of the storm itself. Seemingly lost in between swells dealing with the waves and ripples there. We are in the trenches battling a monster that never sees us. Even when we have crew it's most always a solo operation. How we strategically navigate prior to the monster's arrival. Then keep on thru the dark night wrestling the beast will determine just how soon and if we live to see another day. How do we get here? Over the years we get a little dinghy and go for a stroll in the Pacific Ocean. The Columbia River bar reopens after being closed to an early winter storm. At most I have a 3 day window to voyage South clearing the rugged stormy terrain of the Pacific Northwest. That's impossible. For elite navigator Stan Honey and a crew of sailing all-stars, beating the prestigious monohull transatlantic sailing record was the ultimate accomplishment. And it was no easy feat. On July 22, 2016, the Comanche—a custom-built, 100-foot racing yacht—set sail from New York to the southern tip of England. Precisely five days, 14 hours, 21 minutes and 25 seconds later, the Comanche’s crew shattered the world record … by more than a day. Brave the high seas as we set sail on one of the most amazing and inspiring journeys ever to take place on film. FREE ENERGY - 1000 Mile Hydro Generator SAILING Trial - Ep 58 Luckyfish
FREE ENERGY – 1000 Mile Hydro Generator SAILING Trial - On Luckyfish we are well on the path to supplying all our energy needs, on anchor or under sail, using renewable energy. With the installation of a hydrogenerator, we can now meet all our energy demands when passage making. At just 5 knots of boat speed the hydro gen produces the same amount of power as a good quality wind generator in 18 knots of apparent wind. Something we rarely see as we spend much of our time reaching or running. We estimate the unit produces about 0.2 knots of drag, or costs us about 5 nautical miles a day if we keep it immersed full time. In this video we look at our unique installation solution and the performance of the unit over a 1,000 mile sea-trial. We hope you enjoy, comment and question. From Apartment Life to Living on a Sailboat in Alaska! Sailing & Cruising Liveaboards
Megan and Rob are a pair of adventure seekers who are working hard to create the life of their dreams: living on a sailboat and exploring Alaska, working online and starting their own filmmaking company. All while continuing to actively explore their surroundings on bikes, in kayaks, in wetsuits, and hanging from climbing ropes. The couple bought a sailboat in April 2015 up in Juneau, Alaska and they've been living on it ever since. For the first couple of years they plan to stay docked in Juneau during the week so that Megan can work at her job as a dental hygienist, while Rob has already secured location independent online work, working for a soil and water testing company. Once they've paid down their student debt, and paid off the boat, they plan to sail around the world. For now, they explore on the weekends and when they're on vacation. They've made a lot of changes to their boat, a 1979 Cal 31 #10 hull, to turn it into a cozy little home. Megan sewed a canvas bimini top for their cockpit to provide shade, they installed flexible solar panels and a small wind turbine to create their own power, and they added a Kimberly wood stove to keep the boat toasty, warm, and dry in the winter months. Living on a sailboat isn't without it's challenges. The couple had no idea how to sail when they bought their boat, so they spent quite a lot of time during their first year afloat learning how to sail. They also say the cold weather can be quite challenging because the boat is always damp inside. It's important to be flexible and easy going in order to be successful at living aboard a sailboat, Megan says. You can't have too many expectations or be attached to deadlines. On a recent month-long trip, Venture Lives had beautiful adventures sailing to Skagway, Glacier Bay, and hiking the Chilkoot Trail. Megan and Rob have a YouTube channel where they share beautiful footage of their liveaboard adventures. Their channel is called Venture Lives and you can check it out here: https://www.youtube.com/user/lilfreckle2 You can also visit their website here: http://www.venturelives.com Thanks for watching! How to Paint a Sailboat in Watercolor Tutorial Boat Bay Sea Watercolour
Here is another painting of my home town. This one is of a sailboat on the bay. Of course I have to have the rock in the background. Here is a link to the image I used: https://www.parks.ca.gov/pages/1019/images/morro_bay_sp.jpg It's really funny. In the bay, the waters are always nice and calm. Gentle waves lap the shoreline. But just on the other side of the sand spit, the ocean pounds the beach with huge waves. I can watch them crash over the break wall at the harbor mouth from my front window. I hope you enjoy this painting and hope it encourages you to get out and sketch your own town. Enjoy the painting and the video. Thanks for checking it out. Please feel free to like and share the video, and subscribe to my channel. I do post videos every week, so be sure to check back again soon.
