01:31
By using the optional protector and float, the unique Seradisc Filter can be used to extract water from beneath the water surface, avoiding floating debris and bottom silt. The caretakers of this seawater swimming pool used to continually stop cleaning to unblock the old filter/service their pump. Now this manifolded floating arrangement keeps them cleaning, not wasting time, money and effort. https://www.seradisc.com https://www.waterpoweredtechnologies.com/seradisc/

Mud, Dykes and Draglines DVD extract

02:17
Some of the finest farmland in Britain was once under water, or so wet that it was useless for most kinds of farming. Over the centuries, ways have been found to turn those bogs, fens and salt-marshes into good productive land. This DVD programme uses archive film taken in Lincolnshire, working demonstrations and preserved machinery, to show some of the ways that this was done. Prisoners are seen at work building earth walls to reclaim land from the sea; a technique and a labour force! that has been used since the 1700s, or even earlier. Vintage machinery, Ruston-Bucyrus and Priestman dragline excavators and their hydraulic successors, dig and clear dykes and drains. A pair of steam ploughing engines can also be seen hauling a drag across drains to clear them of mud and silt. Steam was also an important power source for the pumping engines that drew the water up off the land and into embanked waterways that led it away to the sea. Steam, diesel and electric pumps are all featured in film going back to pumping station building and modification in the 1940s and 50s. Man-power would always have been a key feature of land drainage work, and this production includes demonstrations and explanations of tools such as sloughs, ritters, foot irons and tile hooks when under-draining fields. Drainage is revealed to be a fascinating process, without which the world would have been a hungrier place. BUY THE DVD FROM PRIMETIMEVIDEO.CO.UK

This fine gold is so fine it does not sink to the bottom and when you roll the water the flakes just fly around. Or is this not gold. What chemical can you use to make this gold stick to one another? Cheers

Cuba: Natural Paradise | Mangrove

08:45
We come to the mangrove kingdom, the place where other travelling seeds struck land. It is the end of the journey of our seed and the beginning of our journey around one of the least-known and most fascinating ecosystems in Cuba: the mangrove swamp. Though it is a coastal ecosystem, the substratum of the mangroves has its origins in the interior of the island. The dense jungles that cover the high regions of the interior retain the rain water. This water gradually filters through the lateric soil of the jungles and forms rivers that descend and grow until they reach the sea. The water that fell in the highlands erodes the land surface, carrying minerals and organic matter in suspension, and when it reaches the coast, the contact with the salt of the sea water causes sedimentation of this silt rich in nutrients. It is a strange, sinister world. The silt condenses forming a viscous mud, corrosively acid due to the lack of oxygen. Strange forms emerge form the aquatic half-light. There is little light, due to the suspended particles and a growing salinity which changes with the tides. But it is here, where conditions would appear to be precisely the opposite of those needed for life, that the different types of mangrove settle and grow. To anchor themselves to this poisonous bed, the mangroves have developed special roots; a horizontal binding system which turns the mangrove swamp into an impenetrable labyrinth. These extraordinary roots manage to extract the nutrients from the surface layer of the mud, while their intricate interweaving retains the silt coming from inland, preventing it from being carried out to sea with the tide. To achieve this miracle in a fatally toxic substratum, the aerial roots of the mangroves either have spongy tissue which absorbs oxygen from the air, or they generate roots which rise up from the bottom like snorkels till they emerge above the surface of the water. The result is that any seed deposited in these noxious muds rapidly germinate, and the mangrove forest grows inexorably, progressively gaining ground on the sea. At the surface, the mangrove swamp is a jungle of survivors. Few vegetable species can cope with the restrictions of this saline substratum lacking in oxygen, but those that can rapidly proliferate and provide shelter for a complex zoological community. For the hutias the tops of the mangroves are an inexhaustible larder. In Cuba, there are ten different species, and one of them is this, the Desmarest hutia or Conga hutia, the largest of all. Generally, the hutias are nocturnal, but here, in the mangrove swamps of the north of the island, they spend the daylight hours hidden among the mangroves, eating leaves, bark, fruits, and even the occasional small lizard. Like all inhabitants of the mangrove forest, the hutias remain permanently on guard. No one is safe in this shadowy maze. Down in the water lurk terrible crocodiles, while among the branches and roots of the mangrove labyrinth there are boas that eat hutias. So, at the slightest movement they immediately go on the alert and flee in search of refuge.

Primitive Technology: Termite clay kiln & pottery

11:27
I built this pottery kiln and some pottery from termite mound clay to test an alternative clay source to my usual one from the creek bank. I started by making a large grate from ordinary clay. It was just under 50 cm in diameter. Next, I took dry chunks of termite nest and put them into the pit in front of the tiled roof hut. The chunks were crushed and water was added to slake the clay. The clay was trodden on to mix it. Dead palm fronds were added to the clay to stop it from cracking as it dried and to add insulation to the kiln. The mixture was trodden on again and then taken from the pit. A trench was dug to form the firebox of the kiln and a wall of clay was made in the front of the trench. A hole was dug into the wall to allow air flow into the firebox. The grate was placed on top of the firebox and the walls of the ware chamber were built around the grate. When the kiln walls were finished, grate bars made from termite clay were placed into the firebox. Grate bars are important for fireboxes as they lift the firewood off the ground allowing air to move up through the fuel bed for more efficient combustion. Burning wood as a heap on the ground allows cold air to flow up and over the coals, cooling the kiln and leaving the air unreacted with the fire wood. It still works but is much less efficient than using grate bars. The finished kiln was 50 cm tall (above grate height), 50 cm in diameter and with walls about 12.5 cm thick. The pit/firebox was about 25 cm deep and 25 cm wide with grate bars sitting half way between the ground and the circular kiln grate above. Next, for the pottery clay, I selected a termite mound built on red clay soil. I took it to the kiln area and slaked it with water and mixed it in a small pit. I crushed up an old grate from a previous kiln and mixed it into the termite clay as grog. Grog prevents pottery from cracking as it dries and helps prevent breakage when firing. I then shaped the clay into a small urn. I also made some barrel roof tiles and a smaller pot from termite clay. I then stacked the kiln with the termite pottery. To fire the pottery, I collected a large pile of dead wood and started a fire in the firebox. I heard some explosions in the kiln early on and knew something broke but continued anyway. Within an hour the kiln had heated up well and the pottery was glowing red hot. By the second hour the temperature went down illustrating an important point: if you over fill the firebox with wood the kiln will choke it and not burn efficiently. Realising this mistake I merely let the wood burn down a little so more air could get through. By 2 hours and 30 minutes the kiln was firing nicely again with all the pottery glowing low orange (about 845 c or 1550 f). I kept it at this low firing temperature for another 30 minutes. The whole firing process took about 3 hours from start to finish, a relatively short period of time for firing pottery. When I took the pottery out, one tile had broken and the urn had spalled (a piece of the outer pot broke off) possibly due to still having moisture in it. The urn was still useable though and I use it to water the cassava patch. The forge blower was well fired and is now immune to water damage, no longer needing to be carefully protected from the rain. I put it in the barrel tile shed for storage. I put the broken tile and spalled piece from the urn in a special heap of broken pottery. When I make pottery in future I can crush up these broken pots and mix it into the new clay as grog to strengthen the new ceramic items. Finally, I stored the good tiles at the barrel tiled hut as replacements for broken tiles in that structure should there be any damage in future. Termite clay is good material for making furnaces and an OK substitute for good pottery clay should it be difficult to find a better source. The termites have already processed the clay by the fact that their mouths are too small to include sticks and pebbles into their structures. As a result, the clay is very smooth and plastic. Too smooth for my liking, in fact, I’m used to working with coarser clay that has silt mixed into it naturally. I find that termite clay is either too runny when wet or cracks too easily when drier. It was difficult to form into complex shapes and it took me 2 attempts to make the urn. But for forming objects like tiles it’s OK, it can be pressed into shape and it will hold without difficulty. In future, I’d be likely to use termite clay for mass producing formed objects such as bricks, tiles, simple pots (formed over a mould) and possibly pipes, thereby conserving the dwindling clay supply from the creek bank which I’ll save for more intricate pottery. In summary, termite clay is able to be used to produce basic pottery if no other source can be found. If you have a termite nest you can make basic pottery from it.

Separating a Mixture of Salt and Sand

06:52
The task was to separate a fairly uniform mixture of salt and sand. To do this, I added water to the mixture, which dissolved the salt. Then I filtered a small sample of the still-settling mixture in a funnel, which trapped the sand, but let the salt solution through to the evaporating dish. From there, I put the dish on a tripod stand with a wire mesh (to distribute heat). When I lit the alcohol burner, the water from the solution evaporated and salt crystals remained in the dish.

Nature and Life - Episode 292 (Medhakocchopia National Park)

25:44
Riverine Bangladesh is well-known as the largest delta of the world. The accumulated silt, carried in by the rivers, from the foothills of the northern mountains has created the fertile land of Bangladesh. With time various forests have evolved in this fertile soil. Though known as a riverine country, the Northeast and Southeast areas of Bangladesh are known as hilly regions. Despite being small in size, Bangladesh is extremely rich with biodiversity due to its geographical location. These hilly regions are home to thousands of plant and animal species. The hill ecosystem thus consists of these animals and plants. However, like other areas, the hilly ecosystem is also threatened due to increased population and economic activities. The forest area is increasingly decreasing. That’s why to conserve these forests and ecosystems, many conservation programs are being undertaken. To conserve the endangered forests and forest resources, the Government of Bangladesh has declared many significant forests as Conserved Forests. Medhakacchapia National Park is prominent among the conserved forests of Bangladesh. Medhakacchapia National Park is located in Chakaria sub-district of Cox’s bazar District. Sited under Cox’s Bazar North Forest Department, this forest was declared as National Park in 2004. This conserved forest encompasses about 396 hectares. Medhakacchapia National Park is well-known for its evergreen Garjan forests. The hills here are of not very high. Even now we find rows of Garjan forests here. A fully grown Garjan tree is almost 30-40 Meters tall. With a straight trunk and spread out branches the trees resemble huge umbrellas. Though the forest is famous for Garjan, there are many other plants here. Alongside the Garjan there are Telsur, Boilam, White Teak, Chaplaish and Sea Apple. To conserve these age old trees this forest has been declared as a National Park. Medhakacchapia National Park is known as the largest Garjan forest in the Indian Subcontinent. The presence of many streams amidst this hilly forest has made it lively. Many wildlife including birds freely roam in the Medhakacchapia National Park. Among the wildlife here Asian Elephant, Rhesus Monkey, Barking Deer, Wild Boar, Jungle Fowl, Bengal Fox, Bear, Squirrel and Civet are commonly seen. Here the Asian Elephant roam in herd throughout the forest. The presence of various species of birds keep the forest alive. Chirpings of Hill Myna, Parrot, Owl, Egret, Wood Pecker, Starling, Jungle Babbler, Bulbul, Munia, Bee-eater keep the forest resonant. Rare birds like the Greater Salty Wood pecker is also seen in this Hilly Mixed Evergreen Forest. The trees, small plants, wetlands and streams here are quite suitable habitats for the amphibians and the reptiles. Prawns, Crabs, Leaf Turtles and various species of frogs are seen in these hilly streams. Inside the forest there are trails for tourists to walk and enjoy the heavenly natural beauty of the Medhakacchapia National Park. But a number of human habitation have been established around the Medhakacchapia National Park. There are 13 villages around this forest. So, the local people frequently extract various natural resources from this forest. The biodiversity of this forest is now threatened because of this unplanned extraction of natural resources. Agriculture is a prominent livelihood of the local people. As some areas of the park are being used for agriculture, the biodiversity of those places is being harmed. Also in many places lack of large trees has made the animals homeless. Also illegal possession, extraction of bamboo, rattan, wood, firewood etc. are damaging the ecosystem of the forest. The wildlife are suffering from loss of habitat and scarcity of food. As a result, the overall biodiversity is being endangered. To overcome this situation, we need to make long term conservation management plans. To conserve and manage the forest and forest resources, voluntary participation of the local people alongside the GOs and NGOs will play an effective role. As an alternative to extracting forest resources the local people can be economically benefited by social forestry. Conservation of the biodiversity of the Medhakacchapia National Park will not only save the age old Garjan forest but will also provide safe habitat for its endangered wildlife.

WHERE TO PURCHASE PRODUCTS http://www.seacretdirect.com/jazzyjujubee My Facebook Seacret fan Page for more info on products https://www.facebook.com/jazzyjujubeeseacretdirect SEACRET Mineral-Rich Clarifying Mud Mask is based on an advanced formula composed of Dead Sea Minerals from the Dead Sea Mud that gently purifies and cleans clogged pores. The Mud Mask is a Dead Sea Cosmetics product that combines herbal complexes of Aloe Vera, Chamomile Extract, Vitamin A, Sunflower Seed and Jojoba Oils. SEACRET's unique Dead Sea mud mask nourishes the skin, leaving it smooth and fresh. MAIN INGREDIENT DEAD SEA MUD - CARE FOR THE BODY AND SOUL Despite years of research on the unique minerals in the Dead Sea's water and mud, scientists still do not have the answer as to why this special Dead Sea mud, from the lowest place on earth, is so beneficial for the skin and body. Yet even without a definitive scientifically based answer, hundreds of clinical trials conducted in hospitals worldwide on a range of medical problems including skin diseases, arthritis, and even cancer in patients undergoing chemotherapy, have shown that the high concentration of Dead Sea minerals is almost instantly effective in improving the skin's natural processes, easing rheumatic pains, relaxing muscles and providing inner calmness and tranquility. The black mud harvested from the banks of the Dead Sea is in fact alluvial silt washed down from the surrounding mountains and deposited on the shores of this inland salt sea. Layer upon layer of fine silt deposits have evolved over thousands of years to form a rich Dead Sea mud containing particularly high levels of magnesium, calcium, potassium, strontium, boron and iron. The resulting mineral-rich Dead Sea mud is a natural raw material that can be used by the body as a source of essential minerals for all its basic needs FACIAL CLEANSING MILK Gentle, complete clean Enriched with Dead Sea Minerals as well as Grape and Sesame Oils, SEACRET Facial Cleansing Milk is designed to clean the skin from dirt and excess make-up, leaving it soft and ready to absorb moisture and nutrients. How to Get Rid of Acne Scars at Home Without Chemicals

01:18
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rScJe8LMROE https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=spXUwMtHOWs https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hiqKvUJvP7w 1 Apply a salicylic acid peel. You can buy a commercial peel kit to use at home. Salicylic acid effectively treats acne and the inflammation or hyperpigmentation that comes after acne clears or in patients with darker skin tones. 2 Use alpha and beta hydroxy acid gel. Apply the gel to the affected area up to 2 times a day. Make sure not to use any product with more than 20% concentration of AHA or glycolic acid since it can strip your skin of oils and moisture. 3 Apply onion extract gel. You can buy onion extract gel from most pharmacies. Apply it once or twice a day until the scarring improves. Studies show that onion extract helps heal scars and burns. 4 Make an onion extract paste at home. Use a mechanical grater to puree a small onion. Refrigerate the puree for 20 minutes to reduce the pungent smell that can cause irritation. 5 Apply aloe vera gel. You can find natural aloe vera gel at most pharmacies and drug stores. Apply it regularly to reduce the appearance of scars. 6 Apply calendula ointment. You can apply an ointment of 2-5% calendula, 3 to 4 times a day as needed. This will reduce the appearance of post-acne scars and blemishes since calendula, or marigold, stimulates cell growth and repair. 7 Apply a sea-silt mask. You can purchase a commercial face mask containing sea silt at a pharmacy or cosmetic store. Apply masks twice a week or as often as your dermatologist recommends for your skin type. 8 Make an avocado mask . Remove the pulp from one avocado, mash it, and apply it to the affected area for 10–15 minutes. Rinse it off with cool water and pat your skin dry with a soft washcloth. 9 Apply honey. Simply spread a thin layer of honey onto the affected area. Don't use honey as a treatment for burns since research shows it may delay healing.

A Paradise in Cuba. Full Documentary

50:55
▶ Spanish video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XttFIiqiPrQ ▶SUBSCRIBE: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCn6XISEgiZpl4oO2SwVn7Sw Our story begins with a small mangrove seed and its arrival in the Cuban archipelago: a land of still undiscovered nature, eclipsed by the beauty of its coral sea. Like this one, other mangroves too came from distant lands and created a fascinating, little-known world; a jungle half above ground half beneath water; an impenetrable maze where countless animals find refuge: the mangrove forest. Inside this strange world life survives between extremes. There are excesses of salt, of humidity and of heat; and every day it goes from droughts to floods, dictated by the tides. The fauna that has colonised it has had to overcome countless obstacles and that has made it very much like the mangrove kingdom itself: just as rich, as unknown, and as dangerous. In this impassable world, a surprise lurks around every corner, every animal is an enigma and every shadow a potential danger. This complex labyrinth is the legacy of that intrepid seed which came across the immensity of the ocean; a fascinating paradise where life has remained untouched by man. Here we find different types of life, aquatic, aerial and terrestrial. Jutias, snakes, crocodiles, blind fish, manatees, cormorants ... The Cuban mangrove forest is still an unknown world concealing biological mysteries and treasures which will astonish the world; a forgotten paradise ruled over by an impenetrable hell of marshy labyrinths, myriads of mosquitoes and dangerous crocodiles. Science has not yet studied the complexity of its creatures and the balance of its ecosystems. And that is part of the charm of the Cuban mangrove forest, knowing that it remains exactly as it always has been, impenetrable, solitary, virgin. It is such a complex world that virtually nothing is known about it. And nonetheless, all its strength and complexity, all its biodiversity and richness, are due to tiny, intrepid travellers that still today, faithful to their spirit, continue to set out on anonymous journeys, crossing the sea and sowing the seeds of paradise.
